The national high school hoops scene received a jolt Monday afternoon when 5-start 2023 prospect Mikey WilliamsMikeyWilliams6'3" | SGSan Ysidro | 2023#1Nation announced he would be moving from San Ysidro (CA) to North Carolina for his sophomore season.

Williams, a 6-3 guard that is widely considered one of the Top 3 prospects in the 2023 class, wrote on his social media that he would be transferring to Lake Norman Christian in Charlotte. 

"Going to keep this short.. Man.. just so everybody knows, I am transferring to Lake Norman Christian in Charlotte, North Carolina," he wrote in a statement. "Leaving Southern California was hard!! Especially growing up there..Sometimes you have to do things for the better..understanding the bigger picture is huge.

'619 is ME, it's in my DNA," Williams said of San Diego. "I appreciate everyone who has been a part of this marathon!! And I appreciate every single person in my city who's supported me. 619 I GOT Y'ALL!!"

Williams led San Ysidro High to its first ever CIF Section championship last year when the Cougars claimed the D3 title over Coronado in February. He was named to the All San Diego Section First Team after leading the region in scoring 29.9 points
