Nevertheless, programs and facilities worked together in order to give players a platform as college coaches watched via live stream. Before May, the chances of having any basketball this summer were very slim, but fortunately that wasn’t the case and players were able to boost their stock along the way.
For this series, we’ll be taking a look at stock risers from the area in various classes.
We continue with the 2022 guards.

Tyson Commander Tyson Commander 6'4" | SG The John Carroll School | 2022 State #203 Nation MD | 6’3 | John Carroll/Team Melo
Commander had a strong sophomore season for John Carroll that ultimately caught the attention of many programs. With current offers from Bryant, DePaul, George Mason, Howard, Mount St. Mary’s, St. John’s, Towson, VCU and Xavier, the 6-foot-3 lefty brings the most important characteristic to the table at a high level: shooting. However since lacing up with tough Team Melo 16U squad, Commander proven that his game is much more even against top competition. He can take advantage of driving lanes off the bounce and finish with craft around the rim. In the open floor he’s always a threat for above the rim finishes and defensively has done a nice job of causing havoc in the passing lanes.
Rowan Brumbaugh | 6’3 | Northfield Mount Hermon School/Prospect U
Brumbaugh is a high-IQ floor general that made a big impression on me during the games that I saw. He has good size at 6-foot-3, shows great understanding and instincts for the game and most of all, seems like a very coachable player. He’s a capable scorer from mid-range and in, but when surrounded by players who can make shots, Brumbaugh is a tremendous playmaker for others. He competes on the defensive end and effectively keeps the opposing ball handler in front. His rise in play resulted in offers from Boston, Brown, Bryant, Georgetown and Richmond this summer.
Devin Dinkins Devin Dinkins 5'10" | PG Gonzaga | 2022 State MD | 5’9 | Gonzaga/Team Takeover
Dinkins is one of the top shot makers you’ll find in the DMV. Furthermore he has what every coach needs in their lead guard, which is the experience and know-how to win big games. He understands how to control the pace of a game and refuses to let heavy ball pressure rattle him. The 5-foot-9 guard holds offers from Bryant, DePaul, Georgetown, LaSalle and Penn State.
Judah Mintz | 6’4 | Gonzaga/Team Takeover
Mintz shares the backcourt with Dinkins to form arguably the best guard duo in the area. The 6-foot-4 combo guard brings plenty to the table which is why he’s regarded as a top 100 player in his class nationally. DePaul, Florida, Georgetown, George Mason, LSU, Marquette, Maryland, Penn State, Seton Hall and Wake Forest have all extended offers. Mintz is an explosive scorer and can get the job done from all three levels. He’s especially impressive when he showcases his footwork after getting into the paint and utilizing shot fakes or fadeaways to avoid his defender.
CJ Lee CJ Lee 6'1" | CG Northwest Jaguars | 2022 State MD | 6’1 | Rock Creek Christian/District Basketball Club
Lee announced earlier today that he will make the move from Clarksburg to Rock Creek Christian, which should give him an opportunity to play a national schedule against top-tier talent. He’s proven his worth this summer in the I-95 League as he carried the scoring load on a consistent basis. Lee is a talented scorer who can do so off the catch or off the bounce and finish routinely around the basket with either hand. His rise is one to monitor as he holds just one Division I offer from Bryant. I expect that to change sooner than later.
