Averaging 22.8 points, 12 rebounds and five assists last season as a sophmore for the Winchester Thurston Bears, the 6-foot-3 forward is gearing up for another head-turning season while donning the Blue and Gold. Moses says he is a pass-first player, however, will not hesitate to attack the basket or take it coast-to-coast.
Moses became one of the few underclassman to finish on the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) Top scoring list last season coming in at number 16. The WPIAL Class 2A All-Section pick has down-right envious finishing ability at the rim and a strong basketball I.Q. that most younger players lack. In fact, I had the chance to catch up with Moses earlier last week about his on-court focus.
“My I.Q. is the strongest part of my game,” said Moses.
“I am agressive down low and always working on my finishing ability.”
Behind Moses’ double-double average last season, he led the Bears to their programs first-ever WPIAL playoff wins (2) while reaching the Class 2A semifinals.
The paint is where Moses thrives most. Whether he is posting up the opposition or driving the lane, it’s pretty much written in stone that he will get a good look at the rim. What makes this kid special is that he can flawlessly finish with both hands, something most high school athletes struggle with. It’s rather difficult to guard someone who you can’t force to go left or right since Moses is quick off the step and will make defenders pay for their misques.
With a vertical of just over 27 inches, Moses can leap for his teammates missed shots and slap the backboard as he finishes for an And-1. He is a young man who is only going to get stronger and a teammate who will always see the open man.
