With new rankings coming out soon let’s take a look at a few kids that should break into the mix based solely off their development. These kids should play significant roles at their high schools.
George Washington III George Washington III 6'3" | CG Chaminade Julienne | 2023 State #92 Nation OH – Point Guard- Christian Academy of Louisville- George is a 6’2” point guard that just moved to Louisville from Texas. During this pandemic Washington has really focused on his skills and his body. Adding twenty pounds of muscles, he should be able to play through a lot of contact. With that new found strength Washington’s vertical is explosive. We should see some nice highlight dunks from him this season. Maybe one of the most vocal young point guards I have seen recently, he truly has leadership capabilities. George uses his right and left hand very well. Also shoots the ball from deep. With interest from University of Louisville and Florida State, I would say he is coming into Kentucky as one of the top 2023 kids in the state.
Sam Parrish Sam Parrish 6'0" | PG George Rogers Clark | 2023 State KY – Point Guard- Tate’s Creek- Sam is a very explosive point guard at 5’10”. Gets off the floor and can throw it down. He is very quick on defense and comes up with a lot of steals. He is a problem in transition with his speed. I hope players can really backpedal because once he attacks off the dribble going downhill he is a problem. Parrish has developed his shot a little. I would like to see it continue to become more consistent. If that does happen, watch out! I can see Sam as a mid major prospect with the way he looked with Louisville Magic travel team. He just gets it done on both ends! Another player in the class of 2023.
Blake Reed Blake Reed 5'10" | PG Mason County | 2024 KY – Point Guard- Bracken County- Blake Reed Blake Reed 5'10" | PG Mason County | 2024 KY is a problem! In the class of 2024, he has already surpassed the 1000 point mark. He is a point guard who plays with a chip on his shoulder. Blake doesn’t back down from anyone. Reed is a right handed player who finishes extremely well with his left hand. He can break players down off the dribble to get shots for his self and teammates. He is the kind of point guard that get the ball up the floor with the pass instead of the dribble. Reed has great vision. Teammates of his should run the floor hard knowing the my will get the ball in positions to score with his court awareness. Blake might be one of the toughest kids in the class of 2024.
Da’Quis Brown- Point Guard- Great Crossing- Brown is a player that just has a good feel for the game. Da’Quis is a good passing lane defender who comes up with a lot of steals. When a shot goes up on offense he rotated back and will pick off outlet passes all over the floor. He is a crafty passer and scorer. He doesn’t shoot much from outside because he does most of his scoring in transition. He gets is teammates involved in the offense. Brown has good vision and is a willing passer. I would like to see his jumper get a little more consistent this season. I can see him getting some college looks. Da’Quis also plays football which shows his toughness when attacking the basket and finishing through contact. Brown is a fun player to watch with the way he flies around on the floor.
