Here is a look at some of the KC-area posts who were the top risers this summer (in alphabetical order and with club and high school and grad year listed):
Cole James, KC United 16U, DeSoto, 2022:
The 6-foot-4 James is a smart big man who uses his size well. His good hands and ability to catch allow him to bring the ball in in traffic and score or pass back out to open shooters. He makes smart outlets after collecting defensive rebounds. He’s fundamentally sound and ready to make an impact.
Spencer Owens, Team KC – Kerr 15U, Blue Valley:
Though he’s just 6-foot-2, Owens played quite a bit in the lane this summer. He is good at catching in the post and finding open teammates or putting the ball on the floor. He’s athletic cutting through the lane or getting down the open floor. He’s not purely a post, but he can make a big impact in the lane.
Jack Ratigan, Team KC – Green 16U, Blue Valley West, 2022:
Ratigan is particularly good at getting up and down the floor, running to catch and score or chasing down a play. He makes some impressive dunks getting out on the break. He can handle the ball anywhere on the court, and he has some perimeter game. But at 6-foot-5 he is really good at working in the lane. He is tough on the boards and blocks an occasional shot.
