Tyler Van Gorp Tyler Van Gorp 6'10" | C New Trier | 2023 State IL (New Trier – 2023)
Van Gorp has showed progress in each setting we have evaluated him over the last couple months. He stands at 6’10” with a very thin frame. Did a nice job throughout the afternoon of garnering deep post position on the catch despite his lack of ideal strength. Once he is only a couple steps from the hoop he is about impossible to cover. Excellent hook shot over either shoulder which he went to over and over for buckets. Sealed in the high/low and had one big dunk. Solid passer out of the post to cutters. In the second game we caught him he was money in the mid-range drilling one after another. Good rebounder in his area.
Sean Molloy Sean Molloy 6'2" | SG Lane Tech | 2022 State IL (Lane Tech – 2022)
This Lane Tech guard displayed a solid passing feel finding Van Gorp in both games. Also hit teammates on the move and dropped it off inside for layups. Had a straight line take off the bounce. His most impressive play was a steal on the perimeter that he threw a bullet pass to his big man for a dime.
Freddy Groff (New Trier – 2023)
Groff is a point guard that has decent length. He proved to be a threat shooting it from three and mid-range.
Sherod Dent (Providence St. Mel – 2023)
Dent was a breakout player for sure. The 6’6” Providence St. Mel power forward has a great frame with a strong body. He did a nice job defending in the post. Lefty is a power player with good length on the offensive end. Can hit an occasional three and slashes with strength.
Jeremy Fears Jeremy Fears 6'1" | PG La Lumiere | 2023 GA (Joliet West – 2023)
The top prospect at the event played like it in the game we saw. The high IQ and savvy point guard was only about 50% playing with a hamstring injury, but that didn’t matter in his contest. He looked uber smooth accelerating past his opponents for buckets. Glides by defenders for layups at the cup. Connected on a deep three, but most of his scoring was done on nifty layups. Had a couple sweet dimes. Pesky defender that got after it against a much bigger opponent staying in front of his man and creating turnovers.
Jeremiah Fears (2025)
This was my first look at Jeremy Fears Jeremy Fears 6'1" | PG La Lumiere | 2023 GA younger brother. Jeremiah is headed into his 8th grade season and is said to be one of the better prospects in the class. The 5’6” point guard drilled a deep top of the key three banking it in the first second we turned over to his game. He played up for his brother against high school players. Shifty ball handler that has a burst off the bounce. Hit another deep triple later in the game. Still very early, but one to look forward to in the future.
Wunya Brown Wunya Brown 6'2" | PG Joliet West | 2021 State IL (Joliet West – 2021)
Brown is transferring from Morgan Park to Joliet West for his senior campaign. The combo guard plays bigger than his height with his long arms. Was most effective throughout the day getting to the rim for acrobatic layups.
Ante Acosta Ante Acosta 6'3" | PG Joliet Catholic | 2021 State IL (Joliet Catholic – 2021)
Acosta is a tough and gritty 6’1” combo guard that is a rock solid role player that should find a home at the small college level. Works well in the mid-range with pull ups and runners. Can hit a three every now and then.
Chikosi Ofoma (Joliet West – 2023)
This was my first look at the 6’6” strong bodied combo forward from Joliet West. Long arms and good strength. He was dominant when he slashed to the basket using a nice combination of handles, power, and athleticism for buckets. Finished through contact and had good body control at the hoop. He hit a couple threes showing he could make them, but was rather streaky from the perimeter with his shot. Much more effective in the paint. Good rebounder in his area that snatched them with two hands.
Alex Engro (Loyola – 2023)
Engro put himself on our radar with a strong performance. The 6’0” two guard is a plus shooter that knocked them down with regularity from behind the arc in both games we saw. Silky smooth stroke from three and also mixed in pull ups and turnarounds in the mid-range area.
