After our series of articles on the Class of 2021 who should be valued, we now shift our attention to those in the Class of 2022 and those that need to be on the radar of college coaches.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these juniors the attention of prospective college coaches.
Drew Brown – Clarinda
The top scoring sophomore in the Hawkeye Ten a year ago was Clarinda’s Drew Brown.
Brown scored 220 points, shooting almost 40 percent from the floor. He also hit 31 three-pointers and knocked down 62 percent of his free throws.
To go along with his nightly production on the scoreboard, Brown also chipped in 80 rebounds, 31 assists and 16 steals.
Baylor Bergren – Red Oak
Red Oak has a pair of key Class of 2022 players starting with Baylor Bergren.
The guard contributed 157 points over 20 games a year ago, adding 71 rebounds, 46 assists and 31 steals. The Tigers will be look to build off a five-win season in 2019-20.
Bergren shot almost 40 percent from the floor and had 22 three-pointers, which ranked second on the team. He also made 74 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.
Dayton Templeton – Atlantic
A nice guard-forward combo in the Class of 2022 is Atlantic’s Dayton Templeton.
Last season, Templeton registered 145 points with 87 rebounds, 28 assists, 18 steals and seven blocked shots in 22 games, making a dozen starts.
Templeton shot nearly 41 percent from the field and made 13 three-pointers. He was also effective at the line, making over 83 percent of his attempts.
Connor Frame – Harlan
Harlan’s Connor Frame presents good size on the outside at 6-foot-2. He can also stretch defenses with his shooting, having made 24 three-pointers last year.
Frame scored 136 points in all, adding 64 rebounds, 16 assists and 15 steals. He shot over 37 percent from the field and 65 percent at the free throw line for the Cyclones.
Ryan Johnson – Red Oak
The Red Oak roster features several members of the Class of 2022, with Ryan Johnson filling a key role from that group.
Johnson is coming off a sophomore season in which he scored 151 points with 93 rebounds, 26 assists, 23 steals and 20 blocks in 19 games. He made 13 starts, shooting over 44 percent from the field with a handful of made three-pointers.
