These players had a great first day of competition and should only get better from here. Keep an eye out for the rest of my coverage from this event, and for these athletes to have a dominant upcoming season.
David Ruff 6’9 2022 (Team Nation 16U Gold) Hallsville High School
Davis is quick-footed and an enormous force down low. He thrives in the post and has an array of post moves that he can get to such as spins and drop steps to get closer to the rim. He is great at fighting through contact, but shies away from contact and physicality at times, fading away even after he fights for good positioning. I would like to see him to continue to go up stronger and continue to work on his playmaking ability and being able to deal with traps and double teams. If he begins to read the defense and recognize where the help defender is coming he can pick apart opposing teams with ease.
Christion Whitaker 6’5 2022 (Team Nation 16U Gold) Kennedale High School
Christion is an athletic wing who thrives at getting to the rim. He has a good handle and attacks the defense with aggression and ferocity. He seems to explode when he gets going in transition and has a tremendous leaping ability. He even has a soft touch on a mid-range shot that he is very comfortable at getting to. He can even create for others; he loves attacking the defense from the corner and dumping off passes to his bigs after their defender steps up to stop the ball. I would like to see continued work on his ball control and ability to set up his pull up by knocking down threes when left alone, and being fearless to keep shooting even if its not falling.
Chendall Weaver Chendall Weaver 6'2" | PG Mansfield Timberview | 2022 State TX 6’1 2022 (Team Nation 16U Gold) Mansfield Timberview High School
Chendall is an explosive athlete with great body control. His leaping ability took my breath away a few times with thunderous dunks. He displayed great body control on his layups and floaters in the lane. He loves contorting his body in the air and has good control over his euro steps. I would like to see him work on his pull up jumper and consistency at the free throw line. He draws a ton of attention when he has the basketball and especially when he drives, he just needs to work on seeing it before it happens and looking to set up his teammates better.
Colton Allen 5’11 2022 (Brock JV)
Colton is an undersized guard who plays with good heart. He has a good shooting motion and is deadly if you allow him to get his feet set and shoulders squared with the rim. He plays unselfish basketball and makes the right reads within the offense. I would like to see more aggression and willingness to create for himself and his teammates especially if they cannot get anything going themselves.
Joe Longoria 6’5 2022 (STAT Elite BLK)
Joe is a good wing who can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. He thrives at drawing contact and getting the best player on the opposing team. He is a consistent shooter, especially from the line where he seems to live. He has a good shooting motion and is confident from deep if he gets his feet set. I would like to see continued development in his pull up jumper, as he gets to the line and the rim with ease if he beings to incorporate the second and third levels of the floor into his bag.
