Ten Minnesota seniors (players that are playing their senior year in Minnesota high school basketball) have earned division one basketball offers and Champlin Park’s Francis Nwaokorie Francis Nwaokorie 6'7" | C Champlin Park | 2021 State MN is one of them. Francis is coming off of a 17 point per game for the Rebels and he’s a preseason Class AAAA preseason All-State player. How has Francis kept himself busy the last six months?
“Earlier when everything was shut down I went and bought a hoop so I could be able to get shots up daily,” Francis said. “But the past two months that everything is open now I go to Game Face training three times a week to to get myself quicker and stronger.”
At times last season the Rebels used 11 different guys in their rotation. Eight of those players have graduated. The good thing is that CP has Francis in the post, Joshua Strong Joshua Strong 6'0" | PG Champlin Park | 2021 State MN handling the ball, and Dylan Gichaba Dylan Gichaba 6'5" | SF Champlin Park | 2021 State MN back on the wing. The framework is there for a solid 2020-21 season.
“My number one goal this year is to claim the State title,” Francis said. “But also being able to show my full game on both the offensive and defensive ends.”
Francis picked up offers from UC-San Diego and Mount St. Mary’s this summer plus he’s hearing from a number of other D1 schools.
“I’m hearing a lot from Mt. Saint Mary’s, UC San Diego, Marist, The Citadel, and Cornell. My next step after November is to choose the best school that can set me up for the rest of my life.”
