Eastview went 24-4 last year with a strong group of seniors. Those seniors (Crowl, Thissen, James, Machacek C Scales) were a huge part of the team but Jackson Purcell Jackson Purcell 6'4" | SF Eastview | 2021 State MN , Kenji Scales Kenji Scales 6'0" | PG Eastview | 2022 State MN , and Zach Spann Zach Spann 6'5" | SF Eastview | 2021 State MN were important reserves that will now step into roles as the most relied on players.
“Some expectations on this upcoming winter season are to pick up where we left off last season being one of the best teams in the state,” Spann explained. “Our team lost a lot of seniors but we have a lot of guys who came off the bench with a lot of talent who are ready to take on bigger roles.
“Some of my goals this year are that I want to step up as one of the leaders on the team and I also want to step up my production this year.”
Spann played a key role for Minnesota Select but he also worked extensively on his own the last six months wanting to become more skilled.
“Some things I’ve been doing during these last months include working on my shot a lot and trying to become a more consistent shooter. I’ve also been trying to improve my handle and getting stronger.”
At 6-foot-6 Spann is explosive with high potential. The type of explosiveness that could grow into a scholarship player at a few different levels. The sky is the limit. So far a few local programs are leading the way in his recruitment.
“The schools I’m talking to the most right now are Northern State, St. John’s, and Jamestown,” Spann said. “I’ve also heard from a lot of other schools in the NSIC and a few junior colleges.”
