With that type of talent on the court major game changers are bound to rear their heads. These young men had great showings on the opening day of The War Before The Storm.
Pierre Hunter
Expect a big high school season for this rising junior. Hunter played both ways, picking up his man just over half court and blowing pass him on the point of attack. He gave his team a quick ball handler that makes plays in the half court, including creating his shot in sets, getting to the rim, finding teammates on the perimeter, and any cutters near the paint.
Mason Gibson Mason Gibson 6'1" | SG Allen | 2021 State TX
The Allen High School senior continues to show toughness on the defensive end. He limits turnovers while being aggressive on drives to the rim. On one of his two first half steals Gibson poked a ball loose, recovered it, and threw a touch pass to a teammate leaking downhill. He continues to connect on corner threes.
Ben Johnson
Johnson made a clutch run deep into his game with Southern Assault. A level-headed guard that can make plays and score. He delivered a 5 point run to erase Texas Dynasty’s deficit late in the game. He slashed to the rim for two and knocked down a wing 3 on the break on the following possesion.
Montez Young
With one of the most productive games on Day 1, Young did everything well. The guard finished his day with over ten rebounds, several of them on the offensive end around a frontline that had 4 players between 6-7 and 6-9. Athleticism and energetic plays allowed him to score in double figures while blowing up passing lanes for transition points. He made smart passes that lead to assists and to sweeten the pot he added in 2 blocks.
Derrick Talton
Talton man’s the point guard position with pace. Paint touches come easy for the guard from there, he has his options of scoring or facilitating. He’s a good decision with a knack for converting attempts at the rim.
