As I said in the past, this is not necessarily who I believe will make the team. This is more a reflection on players who might be good “bets” to finish in the group.
Jaylen Carey Jaylen Carey 6'8" | PF Westminster Academy | 2023 State #129 Nation FL – University School
The hard work Carey has put in over the summer is going to pay dividends for the Sharks. The 6-foot-8 center has slimmed down and improved his footwork in the paint. Carey still has his power and thanks to his rigorous training has boosted his cardio to stick more on the floor. Few players can match-up with his physicality across all classes here in South Florida. I am interested to see how defenses game-plan for him. Do you put him on the line? I think anywhere deep around the cylinder, Carey is going to be able to finish with a more defined post game. The long line in his family pedigree is about to get another chapter.
Geoffrey Sprouse Geoffrey Sprouse 5'11" | CG Pines Charter | 2022 State FL – Pembroke Pines Charter
The Jaguars are coming off a 26-3 season and a state final appearance. On top of that, the program lost three key seniors. Cause for concern? Not when you have an up and coming player like 2022 Geoffrey Sprouse Geoffrey Sprouse 5'11" | CG Pines Charter | 2022 State FL . Holding an offer from Florida Gulf Coast, Sprouse averaged 10.9 points per game as a sophomore. In addition, Sprouse has heard from programs such as Florida International and Princeton. Combined with his ability to guard the ball, Sprouse will be a 15+ point scorer with more control of the Jaguars offense. Moreover, his development as a playmaker should be enhanced. The honorable mention he got from the Miami Herald will be upgraded this season.
Javen Flowers-Smith Javen Flowers-Smith 6'1" | PG Salem | 2021 State GA – Pembroke Pines Charter
Sticking in the Jaguars back-court, Javen Flowers-Smith Javen Flowers-Smith 6'1" | PG Salem | 2021 State GA will leap frog past his third-team selection by the Miami Herald as a junior. Flowers-Smith averaged 12.7 points per game across 27 games last season. However, the 6-foot guard raised his game against some of the regions best competition. In four games against Northeast, Flowers-Smith scored 72 points across four games. For context, that squad is now about to do damage playing for West Oaks Academy this season. Flowers-Smith should continue the mantle of success for the Jaguars as a senior.
Faheim Meran Faheim Meran 6'5" | SF West Oaks | 2022 State FL – Miramar
The tools are all there for Meran to be one of the best players in this area. Meran mixes his 6-foot-5 size with tremendous athleticism, resulting in a difficult guard for any opponent. While I love his development as a point guard, Meran can lock-down similar sized forwards at the drop of a dime. The 2022 will breeze past his numbers last season, when he averaged 9.6 points per game. Meran is a gifted passer and has the intangibles of being a strong rebounder at his position. Bottom line, this D-1 prospect will stuff a stat sheet.
David Delancy IV David Delancy IV 6'5" | CG Somerset Pines | 2023 FL IV – Somerset Academy
Delancy IV concluded a solid freshman campaign with the Panthers. The 6-foot-4 point guard averaged 9.4 points and 3.9 rebounds across 20 games. With the loss of 2020 Nathan Montaque Nathan Montaque 6'5" | PF Somerset | 2020 State FL , those numbers are about to go up. Delancy IV is another player who excels well out of his natural position. Specifically, Delancy IV is going to battle on the glass and stand toe-to-toe with bigger players. The more repetitions he gets in live action, the better I think he is going to become.
