Team Curry closes out Team Charlotte
Bragging rights go to Team Curry after squeezing out a close 58-57 in the 17U Orange Championship bracket. Jamarii Thomas Jamarii Thomas 6'1" | PG The Burlington School | 2021 State NC , Jonas Aidoo Jonas Aidoo 7'0" | C Liberty Heights | 2021 State #89 Nation NC and company did work to put away Team Charlotte for the top spot in the Big Shots 17U Power Rankings. Thomas took home MVP honors, showing off his prowess on both ends as a true point guard and leader on the defensive end. Aidoo continued to show his growth around the rim and as a rim protector and continues to reel in offers. The latest one: South Carolina.
Silas Demary Jr Silas Demary Jr 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2023 State #114 Nation NC / Julius Peacock Julius Peacock 6'7" | PF Heritage | 2021 State NC finding confidence
Two player that have grown a ton over the past few months are Silas Demary Jr Silas Demary Jr 6'4" | CG Combine Academy | 2023 State #114 Nation NC and Julius Peacock Julius Peacock 6'7" | PF Heritage | 2021 State NC . Demary played a reserve role on the bench at Millbrook this past season, but leading Raleigh’s Finest this summer should boost his role a ton in 2020-21. Demary produced 20.0 ppg at Big Shots Carolina Live.
Peacock has shown tremendous growth in the frontcourt running the floor and finishing with authority and blocking shots at the rim. He was named Game MVP in Raleigh’s Finest final game with 16 points. He’s a late bloomer worth taking a look at 6-foot-8.
Elijah Ormiston Elijah Ormiston 6'7" | PF Cannon School | 2021 State NC puts up numbers
Elijah Ormiston Elijah Ormiston 6'7" | PF Cannon School | 2021 State NC is one prospect that’s gotten lost in the shuffle a bit over at The Cannon School, but he’s turned heads this summer with PSB Elite UA Rise. He’s a 6-foot-7 true post prospect with nice footwork and a variety of moves to finish around the rim. He went off for 35 points in a close victory over Hoop WallStreet to close out the weekend. Look for his stock to rise in the next rankings update for the 2021 class on Friday.
The Leftovers (OH/KY) reign supreme again
In their return to the Big Shots stage, The Leftovers led by Gape Cupps, Rich Rolf Rich Rolf 6'6" | PF Centerville | 2022 State OH , Jacob Conner Jacob Conner 6'7" | PF Alter | 2022 State OH and Reed Sheppard ran through the competition in the 16U Orange division en route to another championship. Rolf led the way this time around with 21.5 ppg while Trent Noah was unconscious from 3-point range, making eight total at Big Shots Carolina Live. They’re a balanced and excited team to watch as they put up 100-points and won by two on a fastbreak layup 77-75 against Big Shots North Carolina.
2022 prospects are stepping up
When the new 2022 rankings drop at the end of the month for North Carolina, there’s sure to be a ton of new faces in it, especially the likes of Kyle Frazier Kyle Frazier 6'3" | SG Weddington | 2022 State NC ( CC Elite ) and Mayar Wol Mayar Wol 6'8" | SF Word of God | 2023 State #157 Nation NC (Hoop WallStreet). Frazier and Wol were two of the top scorers in the 17U Orange division this past weekend. Frazier knocked down five 3-pointers and posted 22.0 ppg while Wol led the division in points (39) and finished fourth in scoring average (19.5 ppg). There just a few names to keep an eye on when rankings are updated.
