It gives a great opportunity to see some prospects who will play in the various leagues as we prepare for this high school season. Here were some standouts from the morning session:
Carlton Carrington | 6’2 | McDonogh ’23
The first thing I noticed about Carrington was how much he grew since I last saw him this past winter. As a freshman, he played bulk minutes for McDonogh as was an outside shooting presence as an off-ball guard. He went from 5-foot-9 to now 6-foot-2, which is huge for a shooter being able to get their shot off against taller players. Carrington shot at a decent clip and chipped into Baltimore Elite’s dominant win with 14 points.
Jared Billups Jared Billups 6'5" | SF McDonogh | 2021 State MD | 6’5 | McDonogh ’23
Billups led Baltimore Elite with 15 points and consistent energy throughout. The Siena commit and his team established an early lead and separated themselves by 20 points at halftime. It’s usual to see players of his caliber take their foot off the pedal but Billups continued to make plays on both ends. He finished above the rim with violence, made open shots and had a number of advance passes in transition to generate easy baskets for teammates.
Kai Brooks | 6’2 | City ’22
Brooks was key in leading his C4E team to a win despite finding themselves down early. The 6-foot-2 guard held his own target practice from three as he nailed six triples on his way to a game-high 24 points. Brooks should have a significant increase in role after City lost almost all of their production due to graduation and transfers from last year’s roster.
Julian Reese Julian Reese 6'8" | C St. Frances | 2021 State #109 Nation MD | 6’9 | St. Frances ’21
The Maryland commit logged another productive day in fall league play for The Black Panthers in lopsided win. He scored 12 points and had multiple finishes above the rim. Reese was a big rebounding presence in the paint and altered shots regularly on the defensive end.
Khyrie Staten Khyrie Staten 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2021 State MD | 6’2 | St. Frances ’21
The new Delaware State pledge led The Black Panthers with 13 points as he found his mark from the perimeter and caused multiple turnovers on the defensive side that sparked fastbreaks for easy transition buckers for both he and his teammates.
Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’3 | Poly ’22
Lindsay continued his hot streak from this summer in a big way against a pesky Mt. Zion team. He’s a smooth operator with the ball as well as a creative scorer around the basket. A given with Lindsay is his elite three-point shooting stroke, which was also on display through the game with extended range. He led Our Family vs Your Team with 21 points in a loss to the Warriors.
Elijah Jones | 6’8 | Mt. Zion ’22
Jones brought relentless effort in the paint for the Warriors. The 6-foot-8 big man ran the floor with purpose, crashed the glass on both ends and converted at the charity stripe.
Primo Spears | 6’2 | Mt. Zion ’21
Spears is a quick-twitch lead guard who gets downhill and creates separation with an array of combo moves before finishing with craft around the rim. He was patient in ball-screen scenarios and consistently made the opposition pay with mid-range jumpers or no-look dishes to the rolling big for lay ups. Spears led the attack with 15 points as the Warriors came away with an impressive win over Our Family vs Your Team.
