The tournament featured a three-game guarantee where the nine teams are split into separate pools. Pool A: TAZ Elite, Texas Hardwork, ProSkills Austin. Pool B: Southern Assault, Houston Defenders, Next Level Raiders. Pool C: ASAK Elite, Team F.O.E., T.H.P. Elite. Thankfully we were able to cover the event through the live broadcast by TBScouts Youtube feed.
Here are the standout players from Pool B at the ASAK Nation Classic:
PG Wade Taylor Wade Taylor 6'0" | PG Lancaster | 2021 State #103 Nation TX (6-0) – Southern Assault
- Taylor was unstoppable with the ball in his hands as he made routine three-point shots and smooth finishes at the basket, earning him the All-Tournament Team Offensive MVP. Opponents had a difficult time stopping Taylor from getting to the rim as he plays with great speed and knows how to attack in transition. A true floor general who can take over a game offensively and put up points in a hurry. Taylor scored 15 points in the opener versus Next Level Raiders, followed up with 11 points against the Houston Defenders and 10 points against Team F.O.E. Taylor is the top-ranked point guard in Texas.
SF Harrison Ingram Harrison Ingram 6'7" | SF St. Mark's | 2021 State #15 Nation TX (6-7) – Southern Assault
- Ingram returned to play this past weekend and showed why he is one of the most sought after recruits in the nation. He was a consistent scorer from the wing position and had a couple of highlight dunks. Ingram found his way into the paint with ease and is a very strong finisher at the basket. Runs the floor extremely well and can fill the stat sheet up in all categories. Against Next Level Raiders, Ingram put up 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, and followed it up with 9 points versus Team F.O.E. Ingram has narrowed down his college decision to six schools: Harvard, Howard, Michigan, North Carolina, Purdue, and Stanford.
PG Gavino Ramos Gavino Ramos 6'2" | PG Antonian College Prep | 2021 State TX (6-2) – Next Level Raiders
- Ramos put on a show during the two-day tournament earning himself an All-Tournament Team selection. The versatile point guard impressed with his scoring, passing, and hustle on defense. Ramos has natural playmaking ability and possesses a high basketball IQ. In the first game of the tourney, he put up 19 points and 4 rebounds versus Southern Assault, and then followed it up with a 23 point performance against the Houston Defenders later in the day. Ramos plays under control and doesn’t get flustered by tough defense. Has great instincts on the court and seems to be in the right place at the right time for rebounds and steals. Ramos has NBA level range and can catch fire from three-point territory in any game.
SG Bryon Armstrong Bryon Armstrong 6'3" | SG Antonian College Prep | 2021 State TX (6-3) – Next Level Raiders
- Armstrong had one of the more impressive performances with a 26 point outing versus Southern Assault on Saturday. He was a true threat from deep-range as he drained four three-pointers in the game, including an accidental and wild full-court shot with a minute still left to play in the first half. Armstrong also does an excellent job driving and finishing at the basket, all while fighting through contact and tough defense. He is a bulldozer when driving to the hoop and plays with great strength and a low center of gravity. Armstrong attacks the boards hard and can be a plus rebounder from the wing spot. Armstrong was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
PG Noah Kon Noah Kon 6'1" | PG Houston Christian | 2021 State TX (6-1) – Houston Defenders
- Kon was making plays all over the hardwood this past weekend as a scorer and passer. Kon has terrific court vision and showed off his passing ability with filthy dishes to open teammates. Has great burst and floor speed, bending by defenders, and having acrobatic finishes at the rim. He does a great job of pushing the tempo in transition. Kon is also an elite defender, where he made some highlight blocks. Kon put up the stat line of 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists versus ProSkills Austin, and 13 points and 5 rebounds against Next Level Raiders.
