While I was not able to be physically in attendance at the Nets on Fire facility, I caught most of the action via the BallerTV livestream and will go through a long list of top performers, sleepers and stock raisers from the camp. Below is my first set of standouts from the Top 75 Cream of the Crop game.
Ty Virgil, 2024, Franklin (CA) – I really liked Virgil’s scoring feel for such a young prospect. He showed the ability to truly score from all three levels of the floor and can do so in both transition and half-court settings. Virgil is a crafty ball handler whose shiftiness and ability to change speed and direction make him a tough cover.
Quentin Meza Quentin Meza 6'0" | PG Cyprus | 2023 State UT , 2023, Cyprus (UT) – Meza jumped off the screen simply because of how aggressive he was offensively and how confident he was scoring in the half-court setting. The 6-foot sophomore guard showed a really nice first step which he used to get by defenders and into the paint for finishes or to set up his consistent one and two-dribble pull-up jumper.
Jordan Barnes, 2024, Olympus (UT) – Of all the prospects I watched throughout this event, it was Barnes who stood out as one of the better pure shooters. The 6-foot freshman knocked down countless perimeter shots off the catch with smooth and fluid mechanics to go along with deep range and confidence.
Jake Overbay, 2022, Lincoln (CA) – Overbay impressed with his solid all-around game. The 2022 guard is a knock down shooter off the catch, but also utilized an effective shot fake to open driving lanes where he finished through contact. Overbay has all the intangibles you look for in a prospect from getting on the floor for a loose ball to giving effort and energy on defense to competing on the offensive and defensive boards.
Jamil Miller, 2023, Shadle Park (WA) – Miller has an intriguing frame at 6-feet-3 with wiry arms and legs that immediately stood out when combined with his fluid athleticism. What makes Miller a guy to track long term is the fact that he possesses a well-balanced wing skill-set complete with ball skills, shooting ability and IQ when pushing the break and finding open teammates.
