While I was not able to be physically in attendance at the Nets on Fire facility, I caught most of the action via the BallerTV livestream and will go through a long list of top performers, sleepers and stock raisers from the camp. Below is my first set of standouts from the Cream of the Crop Top 50 game.
Curtis Williams Curtis Williams 6'6" | SF Etiwanda | 2023 State #159 Nation CA-S , 2023, Etiwanda – Williams continues to be one of the more intriguing young guards in Southern California. His size, ball skills and ability to create shots for himself and teammates allows him to play both on and off the ball effectively. Williams played junior varsity last season, as most Eagles’ guards do, and we’re looking forward to seeing him log some meaningful varsity minutes.
Jeremiah Dargan Jeremiah Dargan 6'4" | CG Clayton Valley Charter | 2022 State CA-N , 2022, Clayton Valley Charter – The 6-foot-4 wing showcased his solid all-around game on both ends of the floor. Dargan can knock down the open catch-and-shoot jumper, but also has the strength and athleticism to get downhill and finish through contact in the lane. Defensively, the junior is a multi-positional defender due to his length, strong frame and good lateral speed.
David Manea David Manea 6'6" | SF Orange Lutheran | 2023 CA-S , 2023, Beckman – Manea had a strong freshman campaign at Beckman, finishing as one of the top scoring freshmen in Orange County. The 6-foot-5 wing/forward uses his strength and physicality to muscle his way through contact and into the paint for high percentage looks. Manea still favors driving to his right and getting into the paint, but has shown improvements with his catch-and-shoot and pull-up perimeter jump shot.
Kyle Evans, 2022, Santa Margarita – For me, Evans was one of the surprises from this event. The wiry 6-foot-9 forward is a fluid and mobile athlete who has the ability to stretch the floor to the three-point line. Evans, a junior, showed good footwork and shooting mechanics in pick-and-pop situations and does a nice job of changing ends of the floor. He’ll need to continue to add strength to his frame to reach his defensive potential.
Donjae Lindsey Donjae Lindsey 6'2" | CG Weston Ranch | 2021 State CA-N , 2021, Weston Ranch – Hopefully Lindsey will make his way onto the radar of more college programs because he’s a really nice basketball player. The 6-foot guard has lightning quickness to go along with a tight handle and the ability to not get sped up under pressure. The senior can get downhill quickly in transition but can also change speeds and direction as needed to score around the basket. Lindsey made it a point to show his passing chops in this event despite it an environment where players look to score.
