Continue ReadingThroughout August, we took the opportunity to get into the gym and watch some grassroots basketball. We’ve also taken the liberty of watching many games via live stream and replay during the “new normal.” Here is a look at five guards from the class of 2023 who respectively improved their stock throughout August.
Isaiah Arnold Isaiah Arnold 6'2" | PG DeMatha | 2023 State MD | New World/DeMatha (MD)
Arnold does not have varsity experience like a lot of his peers, but you can’t tell by watching him play. He plays a controlled brand of basketball and has a slick pull-up jumper. Arnold has provided reliable lead guard play more often than not for New World and has become a name to monitor moving forward.
Jovani Galarza | District Basketball Club/Avalon (MD)
Galarza is an explosive guard who burst onto the scene at I95 Coalition. The hidden gem from Montgomery County plays both ends of the floor and is a fun player to watch.
Jayden Harris | Team Durant/Christ Chapel (VA)
Harris is a tall and lanky guard who can score in bunches but is also a potential lockdown defender. He certainly had some bright moments this summer and is poised to break out soon.
Jahnathan Lamothe Jahnathan Lamothe 6'3" | CG St. Frances | 2023 State #204 Nation MD | Team Durant/St. Frances (MD)
It would be a huge mistake to exclude Lamothe from this list. He’s been a steady contributor for a very talented Team Durant 15U group and recently took home an MVP trophy from the finale at I95 Coalition.
Alex Mostashari | District Basketball Club/Gonzaga (DC)
Mostashari is a dead-eye shooter but should not be pigeonholed as such. He is a solid all-around player who will rebound, defend, and share the ball. It’ll be interesting to see what Mostashari can do with the positive momentum he’s created.
