While the rising sophomore class had to deal with an interesting first summer after the high school season, some prospects were able to make the most out of it. They were able to elevate their stocks despite the fact major AAU circuits were not running. Here are the top stock risers from the 2023 updated rankings.
Aaron Davis Aaron Davis 6'5" | SF Hudson Catholic | 2023 PA , 6’5 SF St. Benedict’s
Davis has yet to play for the Grey Bees, but that does not mean his stock is not on the rise. The 6’5 forward has a strong frame which he uses to muscle shots through contact. Davis has a nice touch around the rim and is capable of beating his defender off the bounce. He skies for rebounds on both ends of the floor and is a good post defender. Davis is a tough forward prospect whose stock should continue to rise throughout the season.
Christian Pierre-Louis Christian Pierre-Louis 6'2" | SG Roselle Catholic | 2023 State NJ , 6’2 SG Roselle Catholic
Pierre-Louis is slated for a larger scoring role for the Lions this season after a strong summer. The 6’2 guard is at his best attacking the basket and has little fear of drawing contact. Pierre-Louis has a good handle and is an underrated passer. He works hard on the defensive end as he matched up against Villanova commit Trey Patterson Trey Patterson 6'7" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2021 State #36 Nation NJ at times during the Team Rio Media Day. Pierre-Louis’ toughness and ability makes him a player to watch for Roselle Catholic in 2020-21.
Jayden Holmes-Cotter Jayden Holmes-Cotter 6'6" | PF Freehold Township | 2023 State NJ , 6’5 PF Freehold Township
Holmes Cotter may have played up with the Jersey Force 16U team, but that did not stop him from leaving his mark. The 6’5 forward has a nice touch around the basket and knows how to create space for himself down low. Holmes Cotter has a strong frame which he uses to draw contact around the rim. He has the ability to knock down jumpers in the midrange and gobbles up rebounds on the defensive end. Holmes Cotter is a physical forward prospect who should create a dynamic duo with Joe Lardaro Joe Lardaro 6'5" | PF Freehold Township | 2021 State NJ for Freehold Township.
Noah Taylor Noah Taylor 6'5" | PF Colonia | 2023 State NJ , 6’4 SF Colonia
Taylor was dominant for the NJ Panthers 15U squad as he proved his ability to be a go-to scorer. The 6’4 forward attacks the basket with a purpose and can finish through contact. Taylor has a nice touch around the basket and can put the ball on the floor. He is a strong rebounder and can defend multiple positions on the floor. Taylor is a strong forward prospect who should continue to put up good numbers for Colonia this season.
Jalen Pichardo Jalen Pichardo 6'6" | SF St. Thomas Aquinas | 2023 State NJ , 6’4 SF East Brunswick
Pichardo played up for the NJ Bulldogs at times during the summer, but that did not stop him from having strong performances. The 6’4 wing knows how to draw contact the basket and has a nice touch. Pichardo can handle the ball on the perimeter and has a good release on his free throws. He rips down rebounds and is a good post defender, despite being only 6’4. Pichardo is a versatile forward prospect whose stock should only go up with more strong performances.
