The following players below used AAU to bolster their stock and earn a spot in our first Ranking Update for the Sophomores to be. Take a look below to see which 5 names were the most impressive new guys on the block.
Peyton Frey Peyton Frey 6'5" | PF Hilliard Davidson | 2023 State OH (Hilliard Davidson)- The younger brother of sharp shooter Jared Frey Jared Frey 6'5" | SG ISA | 2022 State OH , Peyton has more size at 6’5 and is bound to have a strong showing for Davidson this season. Like his brother, Peyton has a nice shooting touch and can knock down shots from 3PT line extended. Has a nice frame to work with and has proven to be a disruptive defender with his long arms and reach. Finds a way to get his hands on the ball and create deflections.
Donovan Hunter Donovan Hunter 6'7" | PF Spire | 2023 State OH (Westerville Central)- The fact that Hunter is at Westerville Central further adds to the thinking that Central could be a dark horse in Columbus this upcoming season. The 6’7 Hunter has size, athleticism, and hustle to be one of the best sophomores not just in Central Ohio, but in the state next season. A persistent rebounder that also has tremendous footwork on-the-ball, Hunter is coming together with his offensive game as well and is dangerous. Picked up an offer from George Washington recently.
Chase Walker Chase Walker 6'8" | C St. Charles | 2023 State OH (St. Charles)- Walker looks like a high level football recruit and if he adds more height on top of his current 6’6 frame, he’s going to be a problem. Built like an offensive lineman, Walker uses his size to be an absolute dominant factor on the glass. Too big to box out and contain, Walker will compliment Joshua Whiteside Joshua Whiteside 6'7" | C Gahanna Lincoln | 2022 State OH for St. Charles and give them a 1-2 punch on the glass. Smart player that finds the outlet pass on defensive boards and could sky rocket on recruiting boards if he adds more size to his game.
Austin Parks Austin Parks 6'9" | C St. Mary's Memorial | 2023 State #166 Nation OH (St, Mary’s Memorial)- Parks came on my radar early April and earned a spot in the Rankings with his play. The 6’9 Center has attention from Low Major programs and for good reason. Phenomenal offensive rebounder and extremely tough to keep off the boards with his size. Passes the ball well out of the post and has decent post ups. Combines his size with long arms and a long reach to be one of the best rebounding threats in the 2023 class.
Gavin Geisel Gavin Geisel 6'0" | SG Alter | 2023 State OH (Alter)- Geisel’s emergence shows the true talent Alter has coming up in the future. A 5’9 guard, Geisel came on the scene during AAU and impressed with his time with All Ohio Red. Arguably the best shooter on his team this past year, Geisel showed he can get hot quickly with his quick shot. Defended the perimeter well and could be a D2 target as he adds some size.
