More names will be added if the 2020-21 season is played.
But for right now, let me dive into what I took away from the 2023 player rankings.
The No. 1 spot will be up for grabs
East Nashville’s point guard Jaylen Jones Jaylen Jones 6'0" | PG East Nashville | 2023 State #178 Nation TN came in as the top player in the first player rankings. He’s deserving of it. The 6-foot floor general is coming off a freshman season averaging 15.3 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. Jones’ strengths are his ball handling and speed. He’s difficult to stay in front of.
Isaiah West Isaiah West 6'3" | SG Goodpasture | 2023 State #216 Nation TN came in at No. 2. . West is a solid offensive player, a solid slasher and has the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter at a high clip. I expect West and Jones to continue to progress, which will make the battle for No. 1 more interesting.
Point guard E.J. Smith E.J. Smith 6'3" | PG Memphis East | 2024 TN from Memphis East is a viable option for the No. 1 spot as well. He has a high ceiling, thanks to his ball handling, patience and overall scoring ability. Smith is still growing, meaning he’s going to be one of the tallest guards in the class. He just needs to continue to get better.
A.J. Dilworth A.J. Dilworth 5'9" | PG Lausanne | 2023 TN ’s defense landed him inside the top 20
Lausanne’s A.J. Dilworth A.J. Dilworth 5'9" | PG Lausanne | 2023 TN landed at No. 16 in the first player rankings. Defensively, Dillworth could be one of the best on-ball defenders in the class. He always look to guard the opposing team’s best guard. That’s how Dillworth is wired. In his freshman season, Dillworth averaged 5.7 points and 2.3 steals per game.
Jasen Brooks Jasen Brooks 6'1" | PG Cleveland | 2023 State TN is definitely a top 5 player in the class
The 6-0 point guard landed at No. 4 in the first player rankings. He’s Cleveland’s next big time point guard. Brooks has carried himself with confidence over the summer and people will see more of him over the course of the 2020 season. Brooks already sees the floor well. He’s dangerous in pick-and-roll action and knows how to finish at the rim. Division 1 programs have already inquired about Brooks. Before his junior season, Brooks will have college offers on the table.
