Continue ReadingThe 2022 Rankings did not see a ton of large jumps as seen in past updates. Instead we saw the majority of guys move around in their “tiers”. For a few players however, we saw guys jump from one tier to another. A tier hump could be D3 to D2 prospect, or D2 to LM prospect and so on. Today I look at 6 prospects that jumped tiers and made strides in their games and in the Rankings.
Danny Young Jr Danny Young Jr 6'2" | CG Shaker Heights | 2022 State OH Shaker Heights (31->16)- Young was a stock riser in our update in April and has gone from #49 in April to #16 in today’s update. The 6’2 guard has grown several inches since the end of last high school season and played well during the AAU season. Young’s ability to run an offense and facilitate for his teammates has attracted the attention from LM schools across Ohio. A talented two-way player, Young has shown he can be an offensive weapon while also defending the perimeter at an elite level.
Amani Lyles Amani Lyles 6'7" | C Beechcroft | 2022 State OH Beechcroft (44 ->20)- Lyles may arguably have had the best Summer of anyone on this list. Currently holding an offer from Cleveland State, he is going to continue to add offers at the LM level. Now 6’8, Lyles has the athleticism and slashing mentality as he was one of the better wings last season. Combine this with his new found size and you have a very dangerous inside-out weapon for Beechcroft. Elite level finisher.
Justin Perry Justin Perry 6'7" | PF New Albany | 2022 State OH New Albany (84 ->46)- Perry has impressed as on both ends of the floor during AAU season as well as during live streamed events this Summer. The 6’6 SF has the length to be a nice rim protector while also having the discipline to defend on the perimeter. Offensively doesn’t score a large volume of points, but impresses with his ability to keep the ball moving and his willingness to make the extra pass for an open teammate. We will be interested to see if he continues this role in the Winter or if he will transition into a larger role as a scoring threat.
Layne Sarver Layne Sarver 6'4" | SF Tri-Village | 2022 State OH Tri-Village (101 ->47)- Sarver made the biggest leap after making large strides with Team Flyght this AAU season. While small for a SF at 6’4, Sarver has incredible talent and especially elevates on both ends of the floor. Very strong frame and plays with a certain toughness on the defensive end. Persistent on the glass and again uses his nice vertical to easily win battles on the glass. Has attracted the attention of D2s in the region.
Tom House Tom House 6'5" | SF Centerville | 2022 State OH Centerville (71 ->50)- Some would argue House is the best shooter in the city of Dayton. We at Prep Hoops would agree with that statement as House made himself known this offseason and during AAU. Playing more a role player this past year with Centerville, House should have new expectations this Winter. Having the green light to pullup form anywhere, House combines his incredible range with his long body at 6’5 to create issues for opposing defenses on the perimeter. Easily looks like a strong D2 prospect at this time.
CC Ezirim CC Ezirim 6'6" | C Jerome | 2022 State OH Dublin Jerome (89 ->53)- The 6’6 PF can rebound the ball. Really, really well for that matter. Very strong frame and combines his size with his long arms and jumps to literally rebound over opposing players. Ezirim has not shown us to be a double digit scorer, but rather does the dirty work on both ends of the floor on the glass.
