In my opinion, the Bigs tend to be easily forgotten due to the offense generally going through the guards and wings at most schools. In this piece, I will share 5 bigs worth looking into that could be diamonds in the rough for the right school.
Elijah Brown Elijah Brown 6'6" | PF Wayne | 2022 OH (Wayne)- Brown is one of the more athletic PFs you will find in Ohio. Knows how to use every part of his 6’6 frame to disrupt opposing bigs. We watched him push around Centerville’s duo of bigs in Mo and Kebba Njie and make their lives difficult on the offensive end. Didn’t see much of him this Summer as Elijah is also a HM football prospect with offers from many BCS schools including Alabama. Brings that physicality to the hardwood.
CJ Yarian CJ Yarian 6'10" | C St. Ignatius | 2022 State OH (St.Ignatius) I like Yarian’s size at 6’8 and I like his role with St. Ignatius who have had solid bigs in the past. He isn’t the type of player that is going to score 20+ every night, but Yarian will provide interior presence on both ends of the floor as well as finish possessions with his size in the paint. Quick for a prospect his size and showed he is exceptionally good passing the ball out of the post. Could see an increased role at Iggy this upcoming season.
Peyton Murphy Peyton Murphy 6'3" | PF Bradley | 2022 OH (Bradley)- Murphy is a guy that sometimes gets lost in the midst of talent at Hilliard Bradley. Playing for a guard oriented team doesn’t allow the 6’3 Murphy to get a ton of offensive opportunities. However, his upbringing with Bradley also shows the mental toughness and defensive focus the Jaguars play with. Murphy has a solid offensive bag with a nice shooting touch to top it off.
Jonah Wauben Jonah Wauben 6'6" | C Bath | 2022 OH (Lima Bath)- With all the talent in the City of Lima, sometimes guys not from Lima Senior or named Mangas can get forgotten. Meet Wauben. The 6’6 Center ran with C2K Lima this Summer and impressed as one of the more unselfish bigs you’ll find. Good mobility and IQ to set screens and come out on the perimeter. Used his long arms on the defensive end to counter shots and contest the rim.
Caleb Laurich Caleb Laurich 6'7" | C Copley | 2022 State OH (Copley)- Laurich is another name that can sometimes be forgotten about due to the young talent on the Copley roster. Caleb however is a high motor big able to make impacts on both ends of the floor. Persistent with the ball in his hands and especially attacking the rim. Defensively uses well timed jumps and his long arms to block most shots. A little undersized for a Center, Laurich could transition into a PF as he fills his frame out and grows more physically
