Continue ReadingAfter the strangest offseason ever, the 2021 rankings have been updated. Given the conditions, PHC made it a point to see as many players as possible rather it be a tournament, small group workout, or showcase –we made it a point to check in with almost every player.
For the Class of 2021, having a travel season nearly ripped away, players came out hungry and eager to seize the moment and take full advantage of the stage.
Here is our latest rankings update, and here we focus on the wings.
Ty Robinson Ty Robinson 6'5" | SF Eaglecrest | 2021 State CO – Eaglecrest
Robinson is one of the state’s best pure athletes, and the University of Colorado football commit will be spending his playing career on the gridiron. On the hardwood, however, he remains one of the best prospects in the state. Robinson is a 6’4 wing that spaces the floor with his outside shot, and when he got himself going offensively, it was lights out for him. As a junior, he put up 13.3 points a game as a 3-point threat, and he also was not shy about going up and trying to dunk on defenders. Robinson had multiple highlight dunks that went viral as he is an aerial threat. On the defensive end of the court is where he is undervalued. Robinson improved drastically as a defender. He made it a point to guard the opposing team’s best player, he protected the rim and was a versatile defender that could hold multiple positions as well. He is the No. 6 player in the state and could’ve easily played college basketball at the next level.

Keegan Phillips Keegan Phillips 6'7" | SF Douglas County | 2021 State CO – Douglas County
Phillips is a gym rat that loves the game of basketball and has put in the work to sky-rocket up the rankings list. Phillips might’ve made the most significant jump from anyone on the class, and the name of the game is; work. Solid frame at 6’6 and a college-ready jump shot. He is one of the underrated shooters in the state that shoots it exceptionally well an is a versatile offensive weapon. He can play both inside and out with a back to the basket game. He scores from all three levels and also is an athletic wing that gets out in the open court for dunks and also had multiple putback finishes in the summer. For Douglas County, Phillips put up 10 points and four rebounds a game but has finally started to see it click. He is getting college attention and also comes in at the No. 13 spot in the rankings. As long as he remains in the gym, I see him elevating, but that should not be a problem as he is one of the few players that is ready to go at any time. Buy Keegan stocks.

Kendale Johnson Kendale Johnson 6'5" | SF George Washington | 2021 State CO – George Washington
Johnson has glimpses where he decides to dominate in games and oppose his will on teams. He is physically gifted as he is one of the taller and thicker players in the class with a college-ready body and can get to where he wants on the floor. Right now, Johnson is perimeter-oriented, where he is taking over games with his jump shot, but when he also decides to go inside and control the game, there is not much that you can do with him. Providing that balance in each setting is going to take him a long way. As a junior, Johnson put up a team-high 13.6 points a game and also showcased himself more of a playmaker with just under three assists a game. He had games where he exploded and looked like the electric player as before. Late in the summer, Johnson started to find a groove and becoming more aggressive. If he can get back to showcasing the balance with an inside and out game, I think the Patriots head into the season as one of the favorites. He comes in at No.15.

Greyson Carter Greyson Carter 6'4" | SF Fairview | 2021 State CO – Fairview
Carter is a player that will be on the diamond at the next level as he has already committed to play Division I baseball at Vanderbilt. Still, he also happens to be one of the best basketball players in the state and comes in at No.17 in the state. Carter is one of the most balanced wings in the state, and the way that he elevated his game last season as Fairview’s leading scorer had the Knights in a position to win a state championship had it not been for COVID. Carter put up a league-high 17.9 points a game with just under eight boards to go along with it, and it was a bit shocking that he was not named the Front Range Player of the Year. He was a consistent source of baskets, and the offense ran through him. Carter’s game indeed translates to the next level due to his ability to use his size to overpower smaller defenders and keeps the defense guessing with his jump shot as well. Carter shot 37% from deep and also played fundamentally sound defense. He has the total package, and it will be interesting to see if he gives it another go this upcoming season.

Blakeley Stoughton Blakeley Stoughton 6'3" | SF Regis Jesuit | 2021 State CO – Regis
Stoughton is a player that had a solid high school season but the way that he has been able to elevate his game this summer is why he is one of the bigger stock risers since the last update. Stoughton is a 6’4 wing that is looking to score at all times. He moves without the ball as an excellent slasher and can extend the defense with his jump shot. He finds his way around the rim for runners and floaters but steps out for consistent mid-range shots and knocks down the 3-ball. For Regis, Stoughton put up 10 points a game and had 4.4 boards to go along with it. He uses being a lefty as an advantage as he attacks the rim for easy lay-ins and is finding holes in the defense. From what we have seen from him this summer, he is also one of the better athletes as well. He has had dunks through traffic, finished at or above the rim, and gets out on the break for flushes. He comes in at No. 19 in the class, and if he can take what he has worked on during the summer into the season, that Regis team will be tough to beat.

Eddie Mcphee Eddie Mcphee 6'6" | SF Geore Washington | 2021 State CO – George Washington
McPhee is a player that gave the Patriots a sense of balance last season as he is a versatile wing that can play both on and off of the ball. The Patriots put McPhee on the high post and at the dunker’s spot, and he delivered as he is an athletic wing that gets up for highlight plays. He is a strong ball handler that loves the mid-range jump shot and will alter the defense with his dribble pull-ups. He has soft touch around the rim, gets out on the break, and will knock down the open shot. For the Patriots as a junior, McPhee put up eight points a game and had games where the offense went through him. He showed he could be a scorer that generates offense but also a playmaker that disrupts the defense. From what we could see from him this summer, he seems to be improving as a gap filler. He provides adequate spacing and can impact the game without the ball and as a defender. He uses his body at 6’6 and is a player I think is in for a big year.
