During the months of July and August a ton of new players emerged from the state of Illinois with their play on the PrepHoops Circuit. Here we dive into that here in our 2021 Illinois Prep Hoops Circuit Breakout Performers Pt 1!
Nick Spannaus Nick Spannaus 6'7" | SF Decatur | 2021 State IL (Illinois Hoopstars Willis)
The 6’7” forward brings versatility on both ends. Extremely athletic around the hoop and quick to the offensive glass. He also connected on an array of threes. Smooth release with a feathery touch from deep. Also threw down a nice alley-oop. Tons of upside here!
Damarcies Moore Damarcies Moore 6'5" | SF Cics Longwood | 2021 State IL (Team MORE Smothers)
Moore is a long and rangy combo forward that projects most likely as a face up four at the college level. I was very impressed with the way he shot it from deep. Smooth looking shot that came off his hands easy. Quick bounce off the floor getting to the glass. Brings versatility on the defensive end as well.
Adam Claybourne Adam Claybourne 6'4" | SG Longwood | 2021 State IL Jr (Team MORE Smothers)
The rising senior has good length and played with energy from his wing spot. Puts head down and gets to the basket. Showed a knack for scoring.
Tyrese Shannon Tyrese Shannon 6'6" | PF Orr | 2021 State IL (Illinois Future/Illinois Hoopstars National)
At 6’6” Shannon has long arms and legs which allow him to cover a lot of ground on both ends. Really good in transition running the floor and defensively has a ton of upside.as a shot blocker and multi-positional defender.
Marko Anderson Marko Anderson 6'6" | PF Maine South | 2021 State IL (Sharks Basketball Blue)
Strong bodied kid that was quick and assertive with his moves on the block. Good footwork and had a feel for scoring on the interior. Even put in a nice runner for a bucket.
Michael Hamilton Michael Hamilton 6'6" | PF St. Patrick's | 2021 State IL (Sharks Basketball Blue)
This St. Patrick’s 6’6” four man has a lot of athletic pop in the front court. He showed that off by throwing down several slams. Uses his length and mobility inside to be effective.
Dae’quan Davis Dae’quan Davis 6'3" | SF North Lawndale | 2021 State IL (Illinois Outwork)
Power and athletic wing that crashes the glass strong for second chance points. Had several impressive moves off the bounce including a baseline reverse layup, runner, and more. His jumper was a major threat as well. Drilled mid-range jumpers throughout the summer. Gets elevation on his shot with a clean release.
James Ogrodnik James Ogrodnik 6'9" | PF Lincoln-Way Central | 2021 State IL (Illinois T-Wolves)
This 6’9” stretch five man was outstanding this summer. He knocked down shots from beyond the arc and was confident letting it fly. Also displayed bounce around the hoop including throwing down several monster dunks. Flashed footwork on the block. Potential as a shot blocker.
Luke Morrow Luke Morrow 6'7" | PF Joliet West | 2021 State IL (Illinois T-Wolves)
Morrow is efficient with his touches down low and gets on the glass. Strong frame and will occasionally block a shot. Has the ability to stretch the floor a little with his shooting from his power forward spot.
Cash Rebarcak Cash Rebarcak 6'5" | SF Yorkville | 2021 State IL (HIT Select)
This Yorkville 6’6” small forward made a name for himself with HIT Select 17U when we checked him out. Thin and lanky frame. Feathery touch on his shot. Also mixed it up inside with a couple of put backs.
Kyle Kostes (South Cook Jaguars)
The Lemont 6’2” two guard was very productive when we saw him. Tough and competitive kid that always seemed to be in the right spot to make a play. Gritty finishes in the paint and knocked down a corner three.
Chris McQueen Chris McQueen 6'6" | PF Lane Tech | 2021 State IL (Illinois Jaguars)
The 6’6” face up forward played with a ton confidence at Havoc in the Heartland. McQueen put it on the deck several times from the high-post scoring on slashes and finishing well around the cup through defenders. Quick off the floor to the glass as well.
Dorien Little Dorien Little 6'3" | SF Holy Trinity | 2021 State IL (Illinois Jaguars)
Offensively Little has long strides when putting it on the deck. Slashing wing that got most of his damage done in that manner. Also a sound defensive player that could develop into a quality college wing defender down the line.
