After graduating just one player, while returning perhaps the best perimeter core in Class B, the Spoilers might be top-10 good heading into the 2020-21 season.
Go-To Guy: Stevan Garza Stevan Garza 6'2" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND
Garza took his game to another level as a junior, increasing his scoring average by about 12 points, averaging 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. He’s got a chance to be the best player in Region 2 as a senior, as he’s a terrific multi-level scorer. He can shoot it from deep, get to the rim, make plays for his teammates and he controls the tempo as well as any guard in the area. Look for him to be the engine for a Grafton team that should be very good offensively.
Breakout Candidate: William Jiskra
Jiskra started as a sophomore and averaged about nine points and eight rebounds in a complementary role. He’s an athletic guard who can defend bigger guys. He rebounds at a high level for a smaller team and his ability to trigger transition opportunities makes him dangerous. He’s effective getting inside and finishing and with the spacing Grafton has with the volume perimeter shooters, he could thrive. If he takes that sophomore-to-junior jump that a lot of guys take, he’s an all-region guy.
Question: Do The Spoilers Have Enough Size?
Grafton has a terrific perimeter core with Stevan Garza Stevan Garza 6'2" | SG Grafton | 2021 State ND , Brandon Albrecht, Justin Garza and Jiskra. They spread the floor well, share the ball well and shoot the ball well. Those qualities are going to make them a very good team next year. Is the lack of size going to hold them back? Oscar Villareal and Max Dumas are two guys who have opportunities to play significant roles in the frontcourt.
Season Outlook
At this way-too-early point in time, Grafton looks like the most talented team in Region 2 and should be considered among the favorites to reach the state tournament. They’ve got a terrific quartet on the perimeter and multiple years of experience now in big games and deep playoff runs. The Spoilers have top-10 upside.
