Continue ReadingDickinson Trinity has been one of the best teams in Class B for years, consistently earning spots in the rankings – and the Titans have advanced to at least the Region 7 championship in six straight seasons. The style of play will probably stay the same, as defense and tempo will be a big key and the Titans have a solid, experienced core set to return for what should be a strong 2020-21 season.
Go-To Guy: Jake Daniel/Tanner Soehren
The Titans are never going to scorch the nets consistently, rather they are going to win with strong defense, controlling the pace of the game and executing methodically on offense.
With that said, Daniel and Soehren both emerged last year as productive offensive players. Daniel is heading into his third year at the varsity level and should be one of the best lead guards in Region 7 as a senior. He’s an excellent slasher with the speed and quickness to break down defenders, plus has the shooting range to put pressure on the defense. And Soehren is an effective interior presence who routinely posted double-figure scoring efforts as a junior.
Breakout Candidate: Nick Deschamp
Deschamp saw minutes last year but took a backseat to a solid group of seniors on the wings. With guys like Matthew Stafford Matthew Stafford 6'1" | SG Dickinson Trinity | 2020 State ND , Trey Praus and Bryant Merry gone to graduation, he’ll have an opportunity to play big minutes. And with Daniel, Soehren and Cole Fitterer all figuring to draw extra attention from opposing defenses, there will be room for him to operate.
Question: Can The Titans Get Back to the Region 7 Final
Dickinson Trinity has reached the Region 7 final in six straight seasons, and gotten to the state tournament twice. They’ve dominated Region 7 opponents in that time and while they’ve lost to Beulah in the championship three straight years, they’ve been right on the doorstep each time. Can they get back to that spot again? Region 7 figures to be solid at the top again, but the Titans should feel good about their chances.
Season Outlook
The Titans have been among the most consistent and solid teams in Class B. They won’t go into next year as the favorite to win Region 7 – Beulah looks like a top-five team in the state again – but because of their style and experience, they should be considered a legitimate contender and threat.
