Carnes ended his junior season with 13.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game. He was the pilot for Central’s offense in a season full of big-time games. Carnes playing-making ability separates him from any other guard on the court. His court vision helps make his teammates look good on the floor. Carnes has a strong push to be a top contender for the OA-News Larger School 2020-2021 Player of the Year.
Why do you think you are being overlooked?
Xavier – “Phenix City is a football city, so it’s hard to get recruited. I believe I work just as hard as any other player that is being recruited.”
As a student-athlete, how do you maintain your performance in the classroom?
Xavier – “In class, I focus on maintaining my 3.3 GPA. It’s hard going home after late practices knowing that you have homework due or a test tomorrow.”
What opportunities could a collegiate scholarship bring you?
Xavier – “A collegiate scholarship would be a blessing. I want to be the first in my family to say I did it and make my mother proud. Especially where I’m from a lot of people don’t make it far, so giving me a chance to play on the college level can help me grow as a person on and off the court. Also, prepare me for the real world.”
Does it matter to you what college level you play on?
Xavier – “No, any opportunity is a blessing!”
How do you want to leave your senior season?
Xavier – “With a state championship with my brothers and help my coach retire on a good note. Also, I want to help my teammates succeed and get to the next level as well.”
Who do you emulate your game afterward?
Xavier – “Jalen Green. I think he is just different and I look up to him.”
