We have seen this happen once again as UC San Diego has all of a sudden taken a real interest in prospects from the Evergreen State. This is no coincidence as Eastern Washington’s former Associate Head Coach Nick Booker has taken an assistant position for the Tritons of UC San Diego. His connection and pipeline to Washington has obviously continued as his new school has dished out offers to multiple prospects from the state.
Two 2021’s Offered Recently
Within the last couple weeks, two rising seniors have received offers. 2021 6’5 W Kobe Young Kobe Young 6'5" | SF Chiawana | 2021 State WA of Chiawana High School picked up an offer two weeks ago. Coach Booker knew of Young from his time at EWU which is just a couple hours away from the Tri Cities area where the 6’5 wing is from. Kobe Young Kobe Young 6'5" | SF Chiawana | 2021 State WA is playing with Washington Supreme in the shortened club season. He is a very good athlete that makes plays on both sides of the ball. More than an athlete, Young is also a high level shooter in catch and shoot situations.
The latest to gain an offer from UC San Diego is 2021 6’9 PF Derek Kramer Derek Kramer 6'10" | PF Interlake | 2021 State WA from Interlake High School. This is the first Division 1 offer for the rising senior. Kramer is a long and mobile four man with great length and shot blocking ability. His offensive skill set is also above average. He projects as a solid Division 1 prospect and a player that will be able to be a really solid piece for a program by his junior year. Kramer plays his club ball with Team LaVine.
2022 Offered Post Prospect
The first player out of this bunch to get an offer from from the Tritons was 2022 6’9 PF Cooper Church Cooper Church 6'10" | PF Tahoma | 2022 State WA out of Tahoma High School. Church is a potentially intriguing prospect as time goes along. His length, mobility, shot blocking and three point shooting makes him someone to follow closely. His best basketball is still ahead of him, but the versatile forward has made outstanding strides in the last couple years as an all around player. The FOH Seattle standout gained his first offer from Eastern Washington University while Coach Booker was still at EWU last September and he followed that up with an offer from UC San Diego in June of 2020.
