The tournament consisted of every type of basketball prospect from 3-point specialist to dominating big men. Here we take a look at the top 3-point shooters that really stood out and made a huge impact on the game.
Nazar Mahmoud – Shooting Guard – Austin Defenders Premier 17U – Rouse High School – C/o 2023Nazar came into this tournament as one of the youngest guys playing up with the big boys, and he held his own, completely putting on a shooting clinic. Mahmoud looked like one of the purest shooters in the entire tournament this past weekend, he had the green light, and any time the ball found him he was ready to shoot. It didn’t take him long to catch fire, he knocked down 3 three-pointer shots in the first half of his final game and went on to finish the game with 5 three-pointers in total. Nazar proved to be an incredibly dangerous shooter, he can spot-up, pull-up, come off screens, and he’s efficient while doing so. The ball comes off his hands with a nice high, fluid release, Nazar gets his shot over defenders easily, even when contested. Nazar Mahmoud is a name to keep track of, he’s a prolific shooter with a high ceiling.

was a sniper for Buddy Buckets, he had an extremely hot game where everything he touched turned to gold; Scott lit Team F.O.E. up with 4 threes in the first half and finished the game with a total of 6 three-pointers made and went on to hit 3 more in the championship game against PB Nation. Ethan is a quick trigger deadeye shooter who was practically automatic this past weekend. Very strong outside shooting presence that put fear in the hearts of his opponents, teams did whatever they could to keep the ball out of his hands. Ethan’s play forced opposing teams to change their defensive schemes and focus in more on him; they even tried sending several different defenders to face guard him. Also a decent ball-handler, but showed off his dribble pull-up abilities, he got plenty of space and hit shots from mid-range and from deep.

Carmelo Adkins Carmelo Adkins 6'4" | SG Western Reserve Acadmey | 2023 State OH is another 2023 kid that stood out while playing up with the 17U boys. This 6’4 sharpshooter has a beautiful jumper, very fluid and concise motion, and shoots the same shot every single time, the ball comes off his fingertips effortlessly. As soon as he catches the ball he looks to fire, even when given an inch of space, he still let it fly, and more times than not, it hit nothing but the bottom of the net. You must keep a hand in his face at all times, due to his ability to get his shot up so fast. He’s a lights out shooter that can score in bunches, Adkins had a first-half where he took off and knocked all of his 3-point attempts down, finishing the half with 14 points and three made 3-pointers. Carmelo Adkins Carmelo Adkins 6'4" | SG Western Reserve Acadmey | 2023 State OH is not just a shooter, he’s also a bucket getter as well. Carmelo Adkins Carmelo Adkins 6'4" | SG Western Reserve Acadmey | 2023 State OH was the youngest and by far the best player on the court.
Shaun Nganga – Shooting Guard – Team F.O.E. 17U White – Prosper High School – C/o 2021
Lethal spot-up shooter that made the Houston Raptors pay for leaving him open by consistently hitting his jumpshots, particularly in the corner. This marksman proved that you must account for him at all times. Shaun has a sweet shot, he gets good elevation, enough to get his shot over contesting defenders, and he also has a nice release point. Shaun Nganga finished a game with 3 total 3-pointers, drawing a lot of attention from the defense and helping push the lead for his team to get the victory with a 60-59 win.
