The 17U and 16U divisions were deep with teams and prospects and the younger divisions had some really good performances as well.
Here is a look at some of the standout performers I saw.
EJ Williams | 6-3 | Gateway Basketball Knights/Missouri Westminster Christian
Williams had a very nice showing for the Gateway Basketball Knights in a Saturday loss to Gamepoint Inland. The 2022 strong athlete lived at the free throw line and was always on the attack. Williams is a consistent threat on both ends and is as physical as can be.
Jimmy Nixon Jimmy Nixon 6'3" | PG Urbana | 2022 State IL | 6-3 | Champaign Heat/Illinois St. Thomas More
Illinois is known for hard nosed guards and Nixon fits the bill. The 2022 guard played at a high level in a Saturday afternoon win over H&H Elite. He gets up and down the floor with ease, can shoot it a high clip and finishes with flash. Nixon has a good mix of size and speed.
Elliot Yates & Abel Hutchinson | Arkansas Athletes Outreach Shannon
Coming over from Arkansas, AAO Shannon 16U showcased two very solid guards in Yates and Hutchinson. Yates, a 5-9 guard from Fayetteville is sneaky fast and plays with endless speed and strength for an undersized player. Hutchinson, a 6-4 guard from Bentonville works hard on both ends of the floor and is someone who is simply a grinder.
Isaiah Williams Isaiah Williams 6'2" | SG Lutheran North | 2021 State MO & Karter Kekec Karter Kekec 6'0" | PG North County | 2021 State MO | Gateway Basketball Knights
For the 17U Gateway Basketball Knights, Williams and Kekec were too much in a victory over Gamepoint Inland Empire. Williams, a 6-2 guard from Lutheran North, he is a true speed demon with a very polished outside jumper. Kekec, a 2022 6-0 guard from North County mixes it up out on the break and as an attacker.
Willie Davis | 6-1 | St. Louis Blazers/Cardinal Ritter College Prep
Davis was very reliable for the St. Louis Blazers this weekend. A smooth lead 2021 guard, he has a long fluid variety of attacks and plays with tons of poise and confidence. Davis is going to be a true x-factor at Cardinal Ritter College Prep as a senior.
Jaden Kennis Jaden Kennis 6'3" | SG Windsor | 2021 State CO | 6-3 | Colorado Titans Gold/Windsor
For the Colorado Titans Gold, Kennis is a very smooth operator and steady shooter. I love the way the 2021 guard dishes it out and makes everyone around him. The confidence that Kennis plays with is noticeable. Look for him to excel at a high level at Windsor this season.
