Look for lots of coverage from the weekend, but here’s a peek at some of the top performers from day one of the Finale (in alphabetical order and with club and high school listed):
Antwaun Massey Antwaun Massey 6'8" | PF Minnesota Prep | 2022 #249 Nation MN , Team KC 17U Pip, Olathe East:
Massey is a 6-foot-7 pogo stick. He has the rare ability as a high schooler to catch under the goal and elevate for a two-handed stuff in traffic. He puts down a couple of dunks a game, including some runaway rim-rattlers. He went toe-to-toe physically with Aidan Shaw Aidan Shaw 6'7" | SF Blue Valley | 2022 State #40 Nation KS in a marque matchup. He is a tough rebounder who takes a beating and keeps battling.
Jayden Renfroe, Team KC 15U Kerr, high school undecided:
A rising freshman, Renfroe is playing up a grade this summer. He is a smooth and graceful 6-foot-5 athlete. He can handle the ball in the open court and under pressure on the perimeter. He makes aggressive drives to the bucket, can dish the ball off, and can hit from beyond the arc. He has a nice shooting touch. On defense he blocks shots and gets in the passing lane.
Tre Richardson, Kansas 94×50 Elite 15U, Highland Park:
A super-slick ball-handler, the 5-foot-11 rising junior is an exciting creator and facilitator. He is as reliable with the ball as just about any guard his age. He can drive and find open teammates, generate his own opportunities, and pop from the perimeter. On defense he has quick hands and quick feet. He produces buckets off steals that lead to runouts.
Aidan Shaw Aidan Shaw 6'7" | SF Blue Valley | 2022 State #40 Nation KS , MOKAN Select, Blue Valley:
The third-team 6A star joined MOKAN select for the weekend. Not his usual summer team, Shaw had to quickly adapt to his new teammates and a new system. But his athleticism is off the charts. Prep Hoops’ third-highest rated player in the 2021 class, Shaw can soar in the lane or on the break, and can catch and score or create off the drive. He is a gritty rebounder and showed his toughness in a battle with Massey. He blocks shots and thwarts passes with his long arms.
Nikko Taylor Nikko Taylor 6'6" | SF Blue Valley North | 2021 State KS , Team KC 17U Don, Blue Valley North:
The broad 6-foot-6 Taylor is a smooth and smart leader. He can drive, shoot from anywhere, and catch and score around the rim. But his greatest attribute is his clever and effective passing. He is unselfish and finds open teammates. He can pass out of the post or dump the ball to an open cutter. He also helps his team bring the ball up the floor.
