What more is there to say? It is the final tourney on the Circuit, The Finale. Solid day of basketball. Here are some 16U players that stood out in the morning session.
Jeremy Paige – SSA Elite
Paige is an excellent defender for SSA Elite that plays the passing lanes well and stays in front of his man. He had multiple steals in the game and also made it a point to run the offense and get it up and down the floor quickly. He played extremely hard and was attacking the rim as he finished in traffic but was also the team’s best playmaker that looked out others as well.
Landon Wagler — Mokan Select
Wagler is a player that showcased the ability to do a bit of everything in his early game. There was a sequence where he had a 3-pointers, layup, steal, and assist all in a 10-second frame. Wagler has a contagious style of play as he gets after it on both ends of the floor with some quick stops and also was significant in help-side defense. His ability to shoot the ball opened up the rest of his game and gave Mokan another option to go through.
Marzouq Abdur-Razaaq Marzouq Abdur-Razaaq 6'7" | SF Accelerated Prep | 2023 State CO – Colorado Hawks
Razaaq led the Hawks in scoring in the first game as he finished with 14 points in the win. As great as he was scoring the basketball, it was not all that he did as he impacted the game in other ways as well. He also five rebounds as he made it a point to attack the glass and also dished it from the block as well. Razaaq had five assists in the game and ran the floor. In the second game, while scoring did not come as easy against a talented KC United squad, he affected the game defensively. He is always moving, steps over in help side, and is a high energy player that understands spacing and where he is supposed to be.
Amarion Stephens – Chicago Demons
Stephens was a player for Chicago Demons that had his hands all over the game. He hit a couple of mid-range pullups, and he also got inside and finished. Stephens is confident with the ball in his hands but also moves without the ball. He attacked off of the dribble and had a couple of steals, which showed his abilities on that end of the floor. Stephens provided a spark for the team, and they made sure to rally off of his play.
Sam Howery Sam Howery 6'1" | PG St. Mary’s | 2022 State CO – Pluto Prospects
The first thing that stands out when you watch Howery is his decision making. He makes the right play and is a high IQ guard that makes it a point to get others involved. He keeps his head on a swivel, is always looking up the floor, and keeps the defense guessing. When he was not passing to open teammates, he was scoring. Howery showcased an ability to score the ball in bunches. In both of the early games, the offense went through him, and he delivered. He finished with open layups and also was hunting for 3-pointers, which I enjoy when he is an offensive attacker. Howery is the heart of the team and engine. As he goes, the team goes, and he was a big reason why Pluto started out 2-0 to begin the day.
