In the Southern California recruiting landscape, many of the top 2021 prospects have pledged to Division I programs as the CIF Southern Section has decided to delay its season until March 12th at the earliest. With the altered season, rising seniors have even less time to be evaluated live by college coaches and we wanted to highlight some of the best available prospects in SoCal.
Trevan Martin Trevan Martin 6'4" | SG Santa Fe Christian | 2021 State CA-S , Santa Fe Christian – The talented 6-foot-4 combo guard has the ball skills and passing ability to play on the ball as a lead guard, but also has the slashing and physical finishing ability to be effective off the ball. Martin, our No. 19-ranked prospect, is a guy who can be relied on to make high IQ decisions in both transition and half-court settings and uses his athleticism well when finishing in transition.
Luke Turner Luke Turner 6'8" | SG Santa Margarita Catholic | 2021 State CA-S , Santa Margarita – It will be an interesting senior year for Turner who will not only have his season start months later than normal, but he’ll also be doing it on a new team. The 6-foot-7 wing has great size, length and shooting ability for his position. Turner, who checks in at No. 21 in our 2021 rankings, is a knockdown corner and wing shooter off the catch and showed improvements to his one and two-dribble pull-up jumper last season.
Jaden Byers Jaden Byers 6'1" | PG Rancho Christian | 2021 State CA-S , Rancho Christian – Our No. 23-ranked prospect in the 2021 class is an explosive left-handed point guard who is best when getting downhill and to the rim in transition. Byers has blow-by speed on the break and bouncy vertical leaping ability which allow him to rise up and finish above the rim and through contact. The 6-foot-2 senior showed more confidence pulling from deep when defenders went under screens last season.
AJ Burgin AJ Burgin 6'3" | CG San Diego | 2021 State CA-S , San Diego – Burgin is one of the best available shooters in the state and perhaps the west coast. The 6-foot-3 guard has consistent and deep range from multiple spots from behind the arc. Our 24th-ranked senior is a three-time San Diego Section champion who impacts the game in a variety of ways whether it’s scoring, assisting, rebounding or defending multiple positions.
