In the Southern California recruiting landscape, many of the top 2021 prospects have pledged to Division I programs as the CIF Southern Section has decided to delay its season until March 12th at the earliest. With the altered season, rising seniors have even less time to be evaluated live by college coaches and we wanted to highlight some of the best available prospects in SoCal.
Pape Cisse Pape Cisse 6'8" | PF Fairmont Prep | 2021 State CA-S , Fairmont Prep – The athletic 6-foot-8 forward is as high motor of a guy you’ll find anywhere. Cisse is great when rim running in transition, beating his defender down the floor, and catching and finishing post-entry passes with touch. Cisse isn’t a great face-up shooter at this point, but he can face, rip through and use the bounce to get the rim and score.
Tyson Robinson Tyson Robinson 6'0" | CG El Camino | 2021 State CA-S , El Camino – Robinson is one of the best on-ball defenders left on the board in this class. The 6-foot guard has the lateral speed and quickness to pick up ball handlers full court and make it difficult for his assignment to comfortably initiate offense. Offensively, Robinson is a slasher and finisher in transition who uses his strong frame to absorb and finish through contact.
Paxton Burzell Paxton Burzell 6'8" | PF JSerra | 2021 State CA-S , JSerra – The skilled 6-foot-8 forward has shown inside-out scoring ability and has only improved against physicality despite his wiry frame. Burzell can knock down the open face-up perimeter shot, but also has touch with either hand around the basket and a consistent jump hook in his arsenal. We would like to see Burzell use his length better on the defensive end as a rim protector.
Caleb Nelson Caleb Nelson 6'7" | SF Carlsbad | 2021 State CA-S , Carlsbad – Nelson is a productive, physical and high motor wing forward who can be relied up to consistently produce on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-6 senior is a consistent three-point shooter off the catch and works well out of pick-and-pop action. Defensively, Nelson can guard positions 3 through 5 at the high school level and rebounds his area well.
