Continue ReadingThe Sugar-Salem Diggers will look to make 2020-21 another great season of basketball. Last year, the Diggers won the 3A state title after compiling a record of 4-0 in conference and an overall record of 19-5 under head coach Shawn Freeman. The Diggers will need lots of help this year from new faces after graduating most of their roster from 2019-20. Sugar-Salem has been a force in both boys and girls basketball and they will look to some younger players this season to help them achieve their goal of returning to the state championships. Continue reading for a detailed breakdown of a few players to watch this season as the Diggers compete for another run at the state title.
Kendle Harris, 2021: Sugar-Salem will have an entirely new looking team for the 2020-21 season and will look to their few incoming seniors with varsity experience. Harris did not play a ton of minutes for the Diggers last season, but practicing daily with a great team and being able to witness success can be very useful for a run at the title in the upcoming season. Kendle can finish well around the hoop and will look to use his abilities as a guard to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. Though Harris has not had a big impact for the Diggers yet, I would expect him to play a big leadership role for the 2020-21 season.
Crew Clark Crew Clark 6'0" | PG Sugar-Salem | 2021 State ID , 2021: Aside from having one of the best last names, Crew has an unbelievably good jump shot. The shooting guard rarely sees a game without more than one made triple and he is a deadly threat from outside. Clark can shoot well off the dribble and demands that defenders guard him as far away from the hoop as the volleyball line. Sugar-Salem likes to run a lot of sets for Clark to run off of down screens and double actions where he can get his feet set to knockdown an open jumper. I believe that Clark will become one of the top players for the Diggers this season and they will put the ball in his hands when they need a bucket or a win down the stretch of close games.
