Head coach Rory Lloyd does a great job of preparing his team by playing a tough non-conference schedule versus opponents from higher divisions, as well as great out-of-state competition. In 2019-20, the Grizzlies compiled a record of 16-11 overall, due to their tough schedule, and an impressive 6-0 conference record. Grace fell in the state championship to The Ambrose School and will look to regroup before taking another shot at a title run in the upcoming season. The Grace Grizzlies will need to come together as a group in order to rebalance their production after a handful of seniors have graduated and a lot of underclassmen will need to play big minutes. Continue reading for a look at a handful of players to watch for the Grizzlies this season.
Ty Gilbert, 2023: One of the most intriguing players on the Grizzlies’ roster, Ty is a freshman guard who played big minutes last season for Grace High School. Gilbert has really solid size for his age and he plays like an upperclassmen, never backing down or fearing the competition. Ty has a great looking jump shot and deep range from three. He is selective in the shots he takes which makes him all the more accurate and an increasing threat from downtown. Last season, Gilbert saw lots of action for the Grizzlies and I would expect him to build off of his experience from last season when he is asked to carry more weight in the upcoming season. I would not be surprised to watch Ty continuously get better leading up to his senior year, and the 2020-21 season will be a great year of all-around improvement for the young guard.
Gage Stoddard Gage Stoddard 5'11" | PG Grace | 2021 State ID , 2021: Stoddard comes off a great 2019-20 season after averaging 20 points per game. He is a strong point guard with tight handles and the ability to weave his way through any defense. Gage is a constant scoring threat and can score at will from all three levels. He is a crafty finisher around the rim, has a great pull-up mid-range jumper, and can shoot from deep off the catch or the off of the dribble. Stoddard led the Grizzlies last season and I would expect him to increase his scoring capabilities even more this season thanks to the departure of some other key seniors. Watch for Gage to take over and help the Grizzlies find their way back to the 1A DI state championship in 2020-21.
