It was the opening weekend of high school football around the state of Missouri. The Show-Me State was one of a handful of states around the country to get its football season off the ground. Several of the players that Prep Hoops Missouri have followed in the past six weeks have now traded in their basketball uniforms for helmets and shoulder pads for the fall. Here is what some of those players did during opening weekend.

Zaide Lowery 6’3" Springfield Kickapoo: A talented 2023 wide receiver, Lowery caught two touchdown passes in the Chiefs’ 28-7 victory over Camdenton on Friday night. The first score came on a leaping reception over a defensive back on a fade route. Lowery played for the Missouri Flight 16U team during the summer.

Always WrightAlwaysWright6'2" | SGJoplin | 2022StateMO 6’2" Joplin: The 2022 quarterback made his debut as a starter on Friday night and completed 17 of 21 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 41-40 victory over Webb City in a big Friday night showdown of state finalists from last season. Wright played for the SSA Elite Black 17U squad during the summer.
