Here are some of the players who looked good from 16U play on Sunday:
Leo Torbor, Minnesota Crown
Torbor did a lot of good things for Minnesota Crown, showcasing defensive versatility and a solid all around offensive game. He’s got good size for a guard at 6-foot-1 to go along with long limbs, which helps him defend bigger guys with success. He’s a strong slasher, who can elevate and finish at the rim, but also showed he’s a willing passer. And he showed some signs of being a heady cutter and screener off the ball.
Noah Bonick, MN Jazz
Bonick is an impressive looking player and had a lot of good moments for MN Jazz on Sunday. He’s a good-sized swingman at 6-foot-2 and has excellent ball skills. He’s excellent off one or two dribble pull ups, he’s got the length and lift to finish at the rim and he’s a creative passer. His smarts on the defensive end are a plus as well, and he’s able to help and recover at a solid rate.
Nasir Whitlock Nasir Whitlock 6'2" | PG Delasalle | 2023 State MN , Gain Elite Minnesota
Whitlock gets after people on the defensive end of the floor. He’s smallish, but he’s an absolute grinder defensively. He’s extremely quick, has very active hands and gets up underneath opposing ballhandlers all the way down the floor. He’s a heady playmaker on the offensive end, oftentimes breaking down first row defenders and looking for pitch outs or dump offs.
BJ Omot BJ Omot 6'8" | PF Mankato East | 2022 State #231 Nation MN , D1 Minnesota
Omot is drawing a ton of praise this summer as a potential budding high-level prospect in addition to the work he did with Mankato East last winter. It’s not difficult to see the intrigue. He’s 6-foot-6, fluid, smooth and skilled. He makes one or two dribble pull ups look effortless and his ability to cut or slash to the rim just seems so natural. He can get lost a little bit off the ball defensively, but there’s no denying that his length and athleticism can be a big positive, as he’s able to swallow up smaller guards while also making an impact in help-situations.
Jason Spaeth Jason Spaeth 6'2" | SG Mound-Westonka | 2022 State MN , D1 Minnesota Prospects – Chase
Spaeth is a big, strong, physical guard who just epitomizes solid. He’s a solid slasher, using his strength to body up smaller defenders. He’s a solid shot-creator off the dribble and he’s good off the ball as a spot-up shooter or cutter because of his intelligence. He’s not real long, but he’s burly and strong which helps him on the defensive end of the floor, as he’s hard to screen and he’s hard to get a shot up against.
Emmanuel Manyuon Emmanuel Manyuon 6'1" | SG Austin | 2022 MN , MN Lightning Ellerbusch
Manyuon has been excellent all summer for this Lightning team and he looks like he’ll be a key player for Austin next season. He’s an excellent shooter off the catch and looked good on Sunday creating his own shot off one or two dribbles. He’s a good-enough secondary playmaker/facilitator and he moves well off the ball either as a cutter or to get to spots where he can spot up. He’s smart on the defensive end of the floor, and while he’s not the biggest guy, he’s long enough to contest against taller guys and more than quick enough to stick with smaller guards.
