Here are some of the players who looked good from 17U play on Saturday:
Reid Johnson Reid Johnson 6'4" | SG Chatfield | 2021 State MN , MN Lightning Herber
Johnson was impressive Saturday for Lightning Herber, showcasing the ability to put up points in a variety of ways. He knocked down mid-range jumpers off the dribble, he got to the rim, he scored in transition and he made plays for teammates. He’s got good size at 6-foot-4 and a solid frame, which allows him to play well through contact going to the rim. He also puts that size to good use on the defensive end of the floor, where he is able to get physical with ball handlers and he’s tough to get a shot against.
Marcus Crawford Marcus Crawford 6'3" | PG Edina | 2021 State MN , D1 MN Prospects – Culp
Crawford is a big guard who seems like a perfect fit on whatever team he’s on. He’s awesome off the ball, excelling as a cutter or a spot-up shooter. He’s got a quick release on his jumper and plays with a good understanding of spacing and how to get to spots on the floor where he’s readily available to do damage. And on the defensive end, he’s smart and in good position to help and recover, while also possessing the physical tools to lock up on opposing wings.
Andrew Kunelius Andrew Kunelius 6'2" | SG Caledonia | 2021 MN , MN Lightning Herber
Kunelius is one of those guys that just seems to always make a positive impact on his team, on both ends of the floor. He’s a big, strong guard – exactly what you’d expect from a Caledonia guard – who gets after people on the defensive end of the floor. He brings a level of physicality to the perimeter that few opposing guards can handle. And he’s an aggressive slasher who has the athleticism to finish in traffic or make plays for his teammates.
Joey Bruggers, MN Crossfire – Jorgenson
Bruggers didn’t get a whole lot of run last winter with Mounds View but he looked like a guy who could be poised to break out next winter. He’s big, strong, active defensively and he can shoot the ball at a high level. When given time to load up a shot, Bruggers is near dead eye. He made a few passes throughout play that show that he’s got some serious ball skills and the ability to make plays for people, leading transition breaks on several occasions and he’s got the size and mobility to guard up or down an opposing lineup.
Mo Hammadehlie, D1 MN Prospects – Culp
Hammadehlie has been a productive player for Rochester Mayo and will ascend into a more heavily featured player as a senior. He was excellent Saturday for D1 MN Prospects, showcasing strong two-way play. He’s an excellent spot-up shooter who has some juice off the bounce and his ability to get up underneath opposing ballhandlers and make life miserable.
Brady Mettel, MN Heat Fleury
Mettel just seems to make a positive impact on the game on both ends of the floor, every time he plays. The Forest Lake combo guard isn’t the quickest guy, but he gets to spots on the floor where he can do damage using his size and understanding of changing speeds. He’s a good shooter both from deep and in the mid-range, and he’s a creative and smart passer. And he’s a grinder on the defensive end, putting pressure on opposing ballhandlers while seemingly providing great help off the ball.
