Tavari Johnson (Young & Reckless)
We had heard a lot of buzz about this Lyons Township point guard coming into the event. In our first evaluation of him we can see what people were talking about! Smooth point guard that has an advanced basketball IQ running his team in the half court. Makes sound reads with the rock in his hands. Slick getting through tiny holes in the defense. Excellent in ball screen situations and making the proper decisions off of them. On Sunday he shot the ball much better from the perimeter knocking down an array of pull up threes and mid-range shots.
Damari Wheeler-Thomas Damari Wheeler-Thomas 6'0" | PG Larkin | 2022 State IL (Young & Reckless)
Wheeler-Thomas is another high level lead guard that plays for Y&R. The Larkin point guard is quick and shifty with the rock in his hands. He changes gears and directions in a split second. Speed with the rock in the open floor. Sound perimeter jump shooter. Active hands on the defensive end creating turnovers.
Ethan Ivan Ethan Ivan 6'7" | PF Batavia | 2022 State IL (HIT)
Ivan was excellent in the last game of the weekend for HIT. The Batavia 6’6” face up four man did a little bit of everything in his 17 point performance. Handled it well including getting to the paint for a sweet euro step. Ran the floor hard for several buckets. Recorded multiple steals including one that he converted for points. Also did what he always does stretching the floor for points from beyond the arc.
Jamil Wilson Jamil Wilson 6'7" | PF De La Salle | 2022 State IL (R.I.S.E.)
The De La Salle thin and rangy four man was outstanding for R.I.S.E. all weekend. Plus athlete that was active every single time we saw him play. He was a pogo stick on the offensive glass playing volleyball on the boards putting them in over and over again. High level rim runner and can block shots defensively. Flashed a few offensive moves throughout the event as well.
Kolby Gilles Kolby Gilles 6'7" | PF St Ignatius | 2022 State IL (R.I.S.E.)
Gilles is an undersized 6’5” four man that has a very strong body which makes up for his lack of ideal height. He used his motor and physicality to dominate at times. The St. Ignatius post had a nice combination of power and spin moves inside to score. Ran the floor hard for transition buckets. High-motor player.
AJ Storr AJ Storr 6'3" | SG Kankakee | 2021 IL (Illinois Hoopstars)
Storr is new to the 2022 top performers, but that is just because he recently reclassified. The Illinois native is going to be attending Bishop Gorman in Nevada this upcoming season. For the Illinois Hoopstars he was fantastic whether it was with the Willis 17U or Central 16U squads. Strong bodied wing scorer that has deep range on his three point shot and has a knack for scoring in bunches. Looked like TJ Warren out there at times.
