Rumble Up North – 17u Minnesota Stock Risers

The Rumble Up North was the place to be in the Twin Cities basketball wise and that includes for local 17u teams. Here are the guys that caught our eye this weekend.
[caption id="attachment_1033005" align="alignright" width="150"] Mo Hammadehlie[/caption]
Mo Hammadehlie of D1 Minnesota Prospects (6’3 SG of Rochester Mayo; 2021). Because the D1 Minnesota Prospects were playing in one of the two divisions of the Rumble, they had a chance to play against some of the top teams at the event. And in seeing them play against those top teams, we were once again treated to Mo Hammadehlie scoring consistently in double digits. Hammadehlie has become a reliant scorer for this team and he’s confidently going after points each contest. There is still work needed to be done in terms of getting to a better shot versus relying on the jumper at times, but Mo has come so far, I never thought we would be having these conversations about him. This winter he has a chance to be a 20 point per game player.

Tarik Iyob of Minnesota Lockdown (6’3 SF of DeLaSalle; 2021). I was able to go back and watch a game from Tarik and I came away throughly impressed. Scored with his back to the rim, taking 3s/4s off the dribble, or moving off ball and often touched in shots despite contact/help defenders in his space. Scored a very difficult nine field goals while making all of his foul shots, and then added seven defensive boards and perfect foul shooting to the mix. In seeing him play, and knowing DeLaSalle could use a bit size you have to wonder if he could carve out a decent role for the Islanders. Iyob has at the very least put himself in consideration with a very nice summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="957156" first="Austin" last="Klug"] of Minnesota Lightning Herber (6’4 SG of Caledonia; 2021). [player_tooltip player_id="957156" first="Austin" last="Klug"] can play. That’s been established. The question has now been at the 17u level can Klug continue to produce as a scorer game to game? This weekend Austin answered that question with a resounding YES. Klug went for double digits in all four of the Lightning games helping his team win three of four contests. Scored 18 on two separate occasions and averaged a solid 15 a game for the weekend.

Noah Miller of Minnesota Lightning Herber (6’0 PG of Forest City IA; 2021). It was a good weekend for Noah shooting the basketball - was hitting threes all weekend in including one contest when Noah dropped in six triples - so we looked deeper into his junior season. We found out that Noah started all games for his team scoring a very respectable 15 points a contest highlighted by 36 percent shooting at the arc plus five assists and four rebounds a contest. A name to know from the Iowa side of the border but it’s close to the good north so he plays with the Lightning.

[player_tooltip player_id="774858" first="Shane" last="Stevenson"] of Minnesota Rise (6’6 Forward of Nicollet; 2021). What separates Shane at his size his shooting touch. He’s added range to the jumper and he’s making his perimeter shots at a quality percentage. When you can get looks over the top at 6-foot-6 and then give the results of a 22 point, 4 make at the arc game against a Chicago team, as well as a 17 point game in the closer, you have a chance. Shane will certainly be a guy that MIAC schools will court and I think NAIA schools should be offering soon. Rebounded solid this weekend with a near double-double vs HIT.

[player_tooltip player_id="774873" first="Cole" last="Tiran"] of D1 Minnesota Prospects (5’10PG of Eden Prairie; 2021). We have talked about Cole at great length this summer and by now you know that Cole is a tough player that guards and has improved his playmaking ability. Today I just want to give you a good sample of what he’s done recently, and that’s attack a good team of Chicago players to score 21 points while dishing out four assists. Players weren’t able to get to the angle and stop Cole from the corner turn meaning he was at the foul line where he shot a perfect 9 for 9. Every weekend I have come away more impressed.
