Leon Bond Leon Bond 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa East | 2022 State #62 Nation WI of JH1 Elite (6’5 SF of Wauwatosa East WI; 2022). Each weekend you walk away with a new impression of prospects that you have seen a few different times. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good. For Leon Bond Leon Bond 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa East | 2022 State #62 Nation WI it’s always good and it’s because play by play, possession by possession, Bond just does more with his physical gifts than others. And when you get an athletic 6-foot-5 player to add all the little pieces to the all around high game you have a prospect that people need to keep an eye on. For example, some players see a board move away and they relax, Leon Bond Leon Bond 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa East | 2022 State #62 Nation WI makes the efforts to chase it down regardless of what’s in his way. Leon is also a player that takes advantage of his burst to cut hard to the rim within the structure to score and complete, or run the floor to get a transition score ahead of retreating players or my favorite, Leon is a defender that will scramble to his closeout or help and make a defensive play where others simply can’t get there to affect the outcome. Throw in the usual team leading scoring and/or board numbers and you have a top player.
Jeffrey Brazziel of Wisconsin Playground (6’5 SF of Milwaukee WI; 2022). The Playground left the event winning the championship of the top bracket. A 4-0 record with a solid four scores and six boards from Brazziel in the title game and he had a similar performance in the low scoring win over D1 Minnesota. Brazziel’s biggest outing was the 27 points going head to head with Leon Bond Leon Bond 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa East | 2022 State #62 Nation WI . Our biggest takeaways from Brazziel was his rate of success beating good athletes off the dribble for mid-range production and his ability to affect the game defensively. Brazziel was consistently in position one and two passes away and with a quick jump mixed with length, risky passes were jumped on consistently all weekend. Then you had Brazziel’s quick step going at the rim mixed with a squared pull-up or the score with one hand on the move touching in attempts. Brazziel definitely defended his status on top of the Wisconsin hill as far as juniors-to-be are concerned.
Cole Glasgow Cole Glasgow 6'2" | SG Dallas Center- Grimes | 2022 State IA of D1 Minnesota (6’2 SG of Grimes IA; 2022). Weekend by weekend I have become more impressed by how versatile Cole is. I believe he will enter college as a combo guard prospect but he’s handled the basketball for D1 Minnesota with more success than I expected. Cole is an agile player who sits in a stance and laterally can beat people to spots plus he uses that agility to aggressively go at the rim and finish over the top of contesting defenders. Most players his size aren’t able to get enough of the ball over contesting bigs but Cole’s aggressive attack and his lift allow him to avoid much of the potential distraction to finish. Throw in the shooting touch and the constant battle form possession to possession and you have a top prospect.
Tavari Johnson of Young & Reckless (5’11 PG of Lyons Township IL; 2022). Tavari was like flooding water getting through cracks in a damn that you just didn’t know were there. He turned corners on screens in ways that most players don’t even think about attacking, and then Tavari had success playmaking. There were times Johnson pushed the ball up the floor to the basket where he had no business getting as deep as he did, but Johnson’s ball handling ability and speed found the space to shoot or deliver. And deliver he did all weekend with some big assist numbers. The assist to turnover ratio on Saturday was better than 4 to 1 and then Johnson bettered that by scoring in numbers on Sunday. In the title game Johnson had a team high 18 making 8 of 10 attempts simply showing that he was one of the most efficient players at the event.
Jack Rose Jack Rose 6'5" | SG Westosha Central | 2022 State #213 Nation WI of Wisconsin Playground (6’4 SG of Central; 2022). PGC went home with a 4-0 record and the big momentum changing talent of three of their games was Jack Rose Jack Rose 6'5" | SG Westosha Central | 2022 State #213 Nation WI . Jack’s hustle plays, a clutch three, and perfect foul shooting (6 for 6) led to his 15 points in the key win over D1 Minnesota and the in the title game Rose knocked out five triples and scored 21 securing the victory over Young & Reckless. When PGC was done in the first half of the title game it was Rose that went on his own 9-0 run to change the contest. Then in the second half with his team’s lead cut him half, Rose put the game away with two more makes at the arc. His touch likely made Jack Rose Jack Rose 6'5" | SG Westosha Central | 2022 State #213 Nation WI the weekend MVP.
