Third Team
PG Ametri Moss Ametri Moss 6'0" | PG Clarksville Northwest | 2021 State TN – Mid-State Elite
So smooth. He delivered an up-fake and took two steps in to the free throw line before calmly burying a pull-up jumper. Silky.
PG Jaylan Miller – Mid-State Elite
Jaylan Miller (#0) – Scored 13 points in the win over Warner . Pesky. Probes with patience. Delivered a lovely drive-and-kick to an awaiting Jack Brown Jack Brown 6'4" | SG Maryville | 2021 State TN . Brown made the three-pointer late first half. Jaylan was coming off another tremendous weekend with @BIGMSE, so this was hardly unexpected.
PG Macen Redner Macen Redner 6'1" | PG Brentwood | 2021 State TN – EAB-Jennings
Bulked up tremendously in the last year. Better on-ball defender with added heft. He was always a solid shooter and continues to knock down both open and challenged triples.
The first time I watched Macen in action was late July 2019 and here were some obversations:
Brentwood High School Class of 2021 point guard Macen Redner Macen Redner 6'1" | PG Brentwood | 2021 State TN , or Jacob Roberts Jacob Roberts 6'3" | PG White Station | 2021 State TN , are probably the most unproven of the ten, as Uriah Powers Uriah Powers 6'5" | SF Knox Webb | 2020 State TN won a State Championship, DeJurnett owns three D1 offers, Madlock and Pruitt are certainly D1 players, etc.
Macen Redner Macen Redner 6'1" | PG Brentwood | 2021 State TN did not appear outclassed. He fit in fine and his coach entrusted him with running their offense.
What did Redner bring to the event? What are some of his strengths and weaknesses?
Smart player. Redner is always on or very near the perfect spot on the floor. Clearly he is a cerebral player. The coach consistently delivered team instructions through Redner, which indicates he is easy to trust and likely to understand quickly.
Catch-and-shoot is a strength of Macen Redner Macen Redner 6'1" | PG Brentwood | 2021 State TN . He is pretty reliable from deep, as long as his feet are set first. Over the weekend, Redner didn’t show much consistency scoring off the dribble.
During open runs he provided steady passing, movement off the ball, and stand-still shooting.
Physicality is an aspect of the game that Macen can prepare for heading into the 2019-2020 season. He is quick enough to project as an above average guard defender. The muscular development needs to follow though. He can get his feet to the perfect spot and just be nudged away if the attacker is more sturdy then him. Basketball is not nearly the grab and hold game of the 90’s, but there is still room for big shoulders and stout chest/backs. Slashers and anybody defending a slash will notice the physicality. Macen will be a more threatening penetrator when he improves this aspect.
Feet are a strength. Macen changes direction sharply and purposefully.
PG Jaylen Pegues Jaylen Pegues 6'2" | PG Hillsboro | 2021 State TN – PSB Nashville
Nominated by the PSB Nashville Director. “JP” makes so many smart decisions with the basketball. He has the skills and mind to be an exceptional executor of the pick’n’roll.
SG Jaylan Wetzel Jaylan Wetzel 6'1" | SG Siegel | 2021 State TN – PSB Nashville Beasley
Wetzel dropped through 18.5 points per game over four games.
