While the popularity of reclassifying in high school has been the trend, the post grad route is still a proven and popular option for kids who want to play against guys that are of college age and in systems and games that are more like the college style. With some of the best post grad programs in the country in VA such as Hargrave, Massanutten and Fork Union, there’s plenty of options for in state kids, but there are also option out of the state. We take a look at seven kids we believe will increase their recruitment and be big time post grad kids next year.
Efton Reid Efton Reid 7'0" | C The Steward School | 2021 #27 Nation FL | 7’0” C | IMG Academy (Steward School)
Reid flirted with the possibility of coming out in the 2020 class but ultimately decided to head down to IMG to play on their post grad team that will be absolutely stacked next year. Reid will be part of a front court that includes high major wing Brandon Murray and Syracuse commit Benny Andrews, and he’s the highest ranked recruit of them all. The 7’0” center is one of the most skilled and unselfish bigs in the country and can dominate games in a number of ways, and he has schools from all over the country making him a priority.
Jordan Battle Jordan Battle 6'3" | CG Norfolk Collegiate | 2020 State VA | 6’3” G | Hargrave (Norfolk Collegiate)
A two time All VISAA selection, Battle will head to Hargrave where his recruitment is guaranteed to blow up as it’s a must stop for college coaches throughout the recruitment period, that is if we have one. Battle was arguably the most under recruited kid in the state the past few years, as he absolutely dominated in every way possible while he was at NoCo. A strong 6’3” guard that can play on or off the basketball and has the ability to impact the game as a scorer, facilitator and rebounder, he’ll be able to show his all-around skill set with more talent around him and against high level competition next year.
Bradley Dean Bradley Dean 6'2" | SG Gate City | 2020 State VA | 6’3” WG | Scotland Campus (PA) (Gate City)
Dean was a part of Gate City’s state championship in 2018 and led them to the Class 2 State Championship game this year before falling to John Marshall. The 6’3” wing will head to Scotland in Pennsylvania to help his recruitment after showing his ability to score it and rebound it at a high level in high school. He’s a strong kid with deep range off the catch and he’s an under rated athlete that can play above the rim as well.
Isaiah Folkes Isaiah Folkes 6'1" | PG Middleburg | 2021 PA | 6’2” PG | Putnam Science (CT) (Middleburg)
One of the most highly recruited guards at the mid major level on the east coast, Folkes will head to Putnam Science next year after Middleburg announced they won’t have a team in 2020-2021. Folkes was originally a standout at Stonewall Jackson before reclassifying at Middleburg and will play on the post grad team at Putnam next year. With over 20 offers already, Folkes is sure to impress coaches with his dynamic ability to play above the rim and make plays on the defensive end as well.
Zy’Ever Wingfield Zy’Ever Wingfield 6'3" | SF Henrico | 2020 State VA | 6’3” WF | FUMA (Henrico)
Wingfield made the decision to go postgrad instead of picking one of the numerous D3 schools that were after him, and with his athleticism and two way ability it wouldn’t surprise me if he picked up some full offers after a year at FUMA. At 6’3” he’s extremely long and bouncy, and he thrives on the defensive end where he can lock up perimeter scorers and jump passing lanes for steals. He’s an incredible athlete that can play way above the rim and rebounds well, and he brings a lot of energy to his team with his highlight plays.
Marcus Banks Marcus Banks 6'2" | SG Bethel | 2020 State VA | 6’3” WG | FUMA (Bethel)
Banks is another VA grab for FUMA who should make a huge impact and impress coaches with his ability to shoot it at a high rate. Banks was a standout at multiple high schools throughout his career and has had a monster summer so far playing with VA Venom where he scored 50 in a game at Big Shots Myrtle Beach. While he’s known as a shooter, he’s a crafty scorer off the bounce as well and with other talent around him has a chance to show he can make plays for others as well.
Raymond Bellamy | 6’4” PG | Virginia Beach Sports Academy (Lakeland)
Bellamy is a guy to keep an eye as he should absolutely be a scholarship kid with an extra year at VBSA. The thing that really stands out about Bellamy is his size and length at the point guard position, which allows him to get downhill and make plays at the rim as well as making plays for others. He’s a guy who can use his length defensively to cause problems, he can score from multiple levels and he’s a mismatch at his position.
