He will complete his senior year at Meridian High School as he aims to help the Warriors compete for a district title and a run at the state tournament. Continue reading for an in-depth breakdown of McKay’s skills on the floor.
Defense: Anderson is an underrated defender. He has a solid build for a guard and is able to pressure other point guards well. McKay has a great motor and is willing to pick up opposing point guards 94-feet in order to impact a play. He has strong hands and the ability to reach into passing lanes in order to grab steals and start a fast break. For his size, Anderson regularly sticks his nose in the paint once a shot goes up and he is a solid rebounder with the ability to grab a rebound once everyone else boxes out. He fights hard in the post if he gets switched onto a big and does his best to front.
Offense: McKay has a great offensive game and is skilled in many facets across the board. One of his biggest attributes is his ability to shoot. Meridian relies heavily on playing fast and shooting the three-pointer well and McKay is a knock down shooter for the Warriors. He always has his hands and feet ready to catch and shoot and finds gaps on the perimeter to open up lanes for himself and others. He can finish very well around the rim and also has a beautiful mid-range pull-up jumper. Aside from his shot, Anderson is a skilled passer and routinely finds the open man at the right time. His passes are on time and on target and he willingly makes an extra pass to an open player. If he cannot drive all the way to the rim, he will be sure to drive and kick or dish to the rolling big for an easy bucket.
Overall: McKay is a great all-around point guard and acts like a coach on the court. His offensive game is skilled in every way and he is an efficient player. On defense, he is tough and plays very hard making him pesky and a nuisance for opposing teams. This season, I would expect Anderson to increase his leadership role with the team and facilitate more while looking for open shots.
