He plays for the Timberline Timberwolves at the 5A level and will look to help them return to the state tournament this season. Continue reading for a look at Cooper’s all-around game in the following paragraphs.
Defense: Cooper has great size for his position and can guard 1-5. He matches up well with other 2’s and 3’s but can also guard point guards and square off against opposing forwards and centers. He is one of the tallest players on the Timberwolves’ roster and usually gets stuck having to guard the big from the other time making him work hard on defense. He has long arms and contests and alters a lot of shots taken against him before securing the rebound. Lumsden rebounds very well and crashes the boards on both offense and defense. He is quick enough to stay in front of any guard and also has the power to stand his ground against bigs.
Offense: Lumsden has a great offensive package and has a lot of different ways he can score. Cooper has one of the best mid-range pull-up games in the SIC and can shoot going to his right or left anywhere near the elbow. He has an incredibly high release which allows him to shoot over shorter defenders and he can stop and pop from anywhere on the court. He loves to go either way with a crossover before pulling up once he feels the defender shift their weight. Cooper can play in the post and has a great fadeaway turnaround in the post that is impossible to stop. Lumsden finishes well with both hands around the rim and likes to power up once he gets inside.
Overall: Altogether, Lumsden has a very solid game that allows him to make an impact on both ends of the floor. He has great size for his position and can defend all types of players. Offensively, he is well-rounded and loves to get into the mid-range for easy jump shots. He is strong with the ball and makes good decisions on offense while playing hard and battling on defense. Lumsden would make a great 2/3 at the next level.
