He plays for the Mountain View Mavericks and will attempt to lead them back to their winning ways and a shot at the state tournament in 2021. Perrin is a great player for the Mavericks and has two more years of high school basketball to sharpen his skills and continue to improve his game. Continue reading for a look at Bayler’s skills and abilities on both ends of the floor.
Defense: Perrin is not the tallest basketball player, but he competes every single possession no matter who he is playing against. He does not back down from any competition and is not afraid to guard the best player on an opposing team. Perrin pressures well and has great footwork which allows him to makeup for a lack of size and length on the defensive end. For a guard, Perrin rebounds surprisingly well and likes to crash the glass and clean up rebounds once the bigs have boxed out and moved the giants out of the paint. Bayler is a solid on-ball defender and holds his own against worthy opponents. Perrin is not a weak link on defense and can improve the teams strength when he is at his best.
Offense: Perrin is a gifted scorer who can get very hot in a hurry. Coming off the bench for the Mavericks last season, Perrin was a constant source of an offensive kickstart thanks to his ability to get hot and stay hot. In one outing last season, Perrin came off of the bench and scored 29 points in limited minutes. He can score at all levels and has a deadly jumper from outside. He can knockdown open shots with ease and does a great job of getting into a mid-range jumper around the elbows. Perrin has a knack for drawing contact and shoots lots of free throws after getting in the lane and drawing the foul. He makes defenders think and keeps them on their toes as they attempt to guard him.
Overall: Perrin is a great offensive talent who will look to expand his scoring role as his minutes increase this season. With two full varsity seasons left, the sky is the limit for Bayler as long as he stays in the gym and works on his game. I would expect his minutes to increase drastically this season as well as his production. Perrin is a great go-to scorer for the Mavericks and will show why during the upcoming season.
