I primarily focused on the 17u division. These “glue guys” are people that held their team together and did the little things consistently that made a big impact for their team this weekend.
Cameron Lee 2021 (Oklahoma Power) Guard
Lee is a player that can do it all for his team. This past weekend he was very active on the glass, grabbing boards and either starting the break for his team or going straight back up with the ball and finishing. Lee can handle the ball and showed his vision when running the break by hitting the open guy for a scoring opportunity. Scoring wise, he can get into the paint and finish and also proved he can shoot the three as well. Lee is a player that plays hungry to win and will do anything to get the job done.
DJ Freeman DJ Freeman 6'4" | PF Casady | 2021 State OK 2021 (H&H Elite) Wing
Several times this weekend I saw Freeman get above the rim and finish with authority. Freeman is a long slasher that can get out and run the floor to get easy transition buckets. He also was active on the glass hunting for rebounds and second-chance opportunities for his team constantly. The 6’6 wing is very versatile and can do whatever you need him to do. Freeman played great defense all weekend long and was an explosive player with a quick first step that plays above the rim.
Adam Roy 2021 (Tulsa Hawks White) Guard
Roy was a floor general for the Hawks this weekend. He led by example by playing as hard as he can the whole game no matter what the outcome was. Roy showed he can handle the ball, and get by the defense and attack the rack to finish. He was all over the floor this weekend and was hustling every play. The Bishop Kelly guard has a great awareness of what is going on in the game and repeatedly made the right play every time down the floor.
Curtis Rose Curtis Rose 5'10" | SG Carl Albert | 2021 State OK 2021 (RSE Elite) Guard
The Carl Albert guard was active all weekend for RSE Elite. Rose is a player that brings energy to his team with his defensive presence and also can get out and run in transition. He can get to the rim off the bounce or move without the ball and find the right spots to be in scoring position. Rose is a guy that you need on your team, someone who can lock up on defense and then turn around and go finish on the other end.
Taezon Taft 2021 (Drive Nation OK) Guard
Taft was a threat all weekend long for opponents due to his quick first step and ability to get by the defense and make plays. He was dishing it off to his teammates and or taking it all the way and finishing at the rim. Taft drove in and had some nice floaters and was able to hit a few from deep. Along with his offensive abilities, Taft played great defensively and was able to speed up the other team into taking quick shots or turning the ball over. He had great energy every game he played and helped his team bring home the championship.
Marcell Perry Marcell Perry 6'4" | SG Southeast | 2022 State OK 2022 (Oklahoma Chaos) Wing
Perry had an exciting tournament that was filled with hustle plays that helped his team. His jumping ability allowed him to explode up and grab tons of boards and start the break for his team. Perry had a face-up game that was unstoppable, he was able to get past defenders and finish at the rim with ease. He made a difference in every game he competed in and showed his toughness and grit when going after loose balls and long rebounds.
Camari Smiley Camari Smiley 6'3" | SF Classen SAS | 2021 State OK 2021 (Movement) Guard
Smiley had a great weekend showing all assets of his game. He has the ability to pass the ball on a rope to his teammates and can handle the ball while being under pressure on the offensive end. Smiley has a high IQ of the game and a motor that allows him to constantly be moving and make the right plays. Along with his playmaking abilities, Smiley can pull up from beyond the arc if you don’t have a hand up. His defense is solid and he is able to keep guys in front because of his quickness. Smiley is a team player that wants to win and will do whatever it takes to get his team on top.
