Team Buddy Buckets 16U Cruises in Opener
In the first game of the day Team Buddy Buckets 16U put on a clinic against Ball4Life. It all started with their inside presence of Michal Wooldridge. The Bethany 6’8” post was dominant with his physicality finishing dump off passes, hitting hook shots, sealing in the high/low and controlling the glass. Also got help in the second half down low from Jenks 6’5” four man Ben Averitt Ben Averitt 6'5" | SF Jenks | 2022 State OK . Strong kid rebounded very well and can take it off the bounce from the mid-post. Quartet of guards made an impact in this game. At the point Gabe Seat from Edmond Memorial was a plus three point shooter and moved well off the ball. Crossings Christian 2022 5’10” lead guard Reid Lovelace was fantastic as a distributor showing feel and touch on his passes. Gritty leader that can also hit an open shot. Putnam City West guard Elijah Jones drilled a three and got to the rack. His high school teammate Corey Gordon Corey Gordon 6'3" | SF Putnam City West | 2022 State OK is a plus athlete at the two guard spot with size at 6’4”. Excelled getting to the rack off the bounce where he scored or was fouled.
NEBC 16U Tops Oklahoma Power
Massai Graham was very impressive for NEBC. The 2022 6’7” four man from Tapestry Charter School brings a versatile inside/outside game. Opened things up with a deep three and also hit a mid-range jumper. Then showed off his strength, athleticism, and explosion in the paint. Also intrigued by McKinley High School product Romeo Bell. The 6’3” two guard is a big guard that gets on the offensive glass for put backs and plays well in transition. Another big men that flashed was Kenmore West’s Ryan Moore. For Oklahoma Power Norman North 2023 shooting guard Garrett Goodwin displayed a feel for getting to the foul line on a regular basis. At the point it was Carter Perry of Vanoss that was a sound shooter from three, mid-range and the charity stripe. Norman North 2022 guard Jole Atkinson is a 6’2” wing that showed crisp ball handling and a mid-range shot. Also had a sweet slip pass.
Drive Nation Oklahoma 16U Knocks Off Tulsa Hawks Blue
This was a fun contest where Drive Nation Oklahoma won by a final of 55-48. Memorial High School athletic wing Ronnie Dixon is a freak show athlete! He is quick to the offensive glass and explosive around the rim. His high school teammate Killian Spellman stands at 6’3” with the ability to make plays in the transition game as a finisher and rebounded well for his size. Jenks 6’3” forward Colton Coffey flashed skill in the paint on several posts ups including a hook shot. Caylon Williams made key plays late as the angular rim runner scored in transition and completed quick moves around the hoop.
For the Tulsa Hawks they had a well balanced attack as well. Ty O’Neal is a face up four with perimeter skill also being able to use his quickness in paint. Seth Pratt from Memorial is a crafty two guard that can stretch the floor with his shooting. Broken Arrow wing Aaron Johnson can put it on the deck for scores and was also often fouled on his takes.
Oklahoma Chaos 17U Start Tournament Off With W
I have really enjoyed watching this Oklahoma Chaos squad play in multiple events throughout the last couple months. They scored an opening victory over the Tulsa Hawks 67-57. Classen 6’3” forward Anthony Turner is the ultimate glue guy. Undersized four man plays with a high motor and mauls on the offensive glass for second chance points. At the point Siee Russell is a dynamic playmaker with the rock in his hands scoring himself or setting up others. Another solid guard on this team is Maven Moore from Northwest Classen. The 5’11” guard can hit an open shot and scores in the open floor. This squad has a duo of upside forwards that each flashed in Desmond Tramble and Tavaun Smith.
OK PWP 17U Impresses in Victory
It was clear early on that OK PWP was superior to Rise in their opening contest. The depth on this squad is impressive. Early on it was Owasso forward Kyler Mann who made an impact. The lanky forward is a high energy player that has bounce on the glass. Got on the boards for multiple put backs. Chased down a defensive rebound and took it the other way for a score. Then Ian Sluice got it rolling. The Metro Christian Academy 6’4” wing has deep range on his shot and a nose for the basketball. Two athletic guards jumped off the floor at us in this one. Owasso 6’4” two guard Bryce Journee had the play of the game with a monster jam! Athletic frame with projectability. Good defender and capable shooter. Sand Springs 6’0” guard Marlo Fox is a slick handling guard that wins in one on one situations getting to the cup with ease. Owasso tough minded guard Trenton Ellison also made an impact getting to the line at a high rate and being a force defensively.
Post Prospects Shine in JEB Elite vs Oklahoma Showtime 17U Game
Another good contest between evenly matched teams. Both squads had a balanced attack on the perimeter and each had a big man that went to work. For Oklahoma Showtime it was Claremore 2021 6’5” power forward Nate Potts. Skilled four man that sealed his defender off on the block. Could also go through them or make a quick move for a short jumper. Got an alley-oop off an out of bounds play. Niftiest move of the day was an up and under finish showing sound footwork. On the other side for JEB Elite we liked what we saw out of Choctaw 6’5” power forward Robert Gambill. Stretch four in the 2022 class that drilled three after three. Free and easy shooting mechanics. Can also score on the block with touch.
